Those with toddler boys

I've been potty training Elijah, and I'm doing the naked method since it worked so well in Korea. It's working great now. He's going pee every time he has to go unless he just gets to busy to stop. He won't poop yet, but I'm not worried. He only wears a diaper right now when he's taking a nap or sleeping at night. He started getting a rash just above his penis, and his penis looked red around the head. I thought he might have gotten something on him, or he may have rubbed it on something when he was playing, or maybe a carpet burn...well it's been a few days and it's still there, and today it looks pretty irritated and red. It's kinda got a few red dots, and a good sized solid red patch, looks a little raised. His testicles are a little red, but not too bad...not sure what it's from, he gets baths every day, at least one (sometimes he asks to take a bubble bath during the day and I let him.) I haven't changed anything...I'm used to him getting rashes, he gets them from everything. BUT he's been running around naked for almost two weeks, and it's just in the last few days and ONLY just above/on his penis that he has this rash. I don't know if desitin will help or not, haven't tried yet since I thought he might have just got a carpet burn or something...I noticed today it bothers him, when I was wiping him down after a dirty diaper...any clue? Should I set up an appointment with the dr?

I would honestly hold off on the bubble bath's. My 3 boys all have issues with their penis and testicles getting rashes and irritations when they take to many of them. I allow one bubble bath a week, and when they do take a bubble bath I make sure I pull the skin back and rinse it with plain water really really well.

I have 3 boys, ages 6, 4 and 2...and my 6 yr old will even get irritated if he isn't rinsed down there properly. If you pull the skin back to wash it with soap, make sure you rinse it well.

Bubble bath's, well to many can cause a yeast infection, just like if a woman uses soap in the vagina, it can cause a chemical yeast infection and so forth. Also, make sure the undies he is wearing are rinsed well, or if you have switched detergents/body soap recently. I have to use ALL Free on my boys and on myself as we all have eczema.

I too am not a HUGE fan of A&D ointment, I mainly use it on the kids for chapped lips. I like using my own little mixture, as I have to be very careful what I put on my boys with their eczema. I use a diaper rash cream(Not ointment) and I mix it with neosporin, and an eczema lotion, and usually their rashes clear up within a couple hours.

If it is a yeast infection, you will have to take him to see his PED or family doctor to get a medicated cream for it. My older son would constantly get yeast infections as a baby, and will still occasionally get one, and I am able to use Vagisil anti itch cream until it passes. Just keep it clean and dry. If it breaks open and bleeds I would take him in ASAP, as it could be a different type of fungal infection or bacterial infection.

Good luck on the rash and potty training! It took me 24 hours to potty train my now 6 year old, it took nearly 2 years to potty train my 4 yr old (he is autistic) and I haven't started potty training my youngest son just yet. I think when he is 3 or so I will start.

If it were ME i'd try just some plain vaseline as a protectant for a day or two and see what that does.  It could be that there is something about the furniture fabric or floor cleaner or any number of other things that is irritating that one sensitive spot but not his other parts because they are already use to it.  I'm not a big fan of diaper creams.  I use plain vaseline w/ and w/o corn starch or lanolin.

could just be that as he no longer has a nappy on he is touching it a bit more as it is a novelty that is is there and avaliable lol.  He may just have irritated it a bit.

hmm...idk. Grey had something like that right above his penis on his lower tummy and it was VERY bizarre....but the doctor said it was just a normal diaper rash and sure enough 4 days later after repeated desitin applications it looked fine.

Ivy~~It doesn't look like a yeast rash, Elijah's had several. I think him and yeast don't mix well. I've got plenty of the cream, and the stuff for it is literally just an anti-fungal cream you could use athelete's foot cream too...I think it starts with an L...anyways, I'm gonna try it and see if it does anything, and the desitin tomorrow and if it doesn't start looking better I'll call the dr. I should be used to Mr. Rashes, but this one is odd...not like anything I've seen on him before.

Try aveeno with oatmeal...they make a diaper rash cream for it. it works pretty well on Grey's rashes for his penis.....but if it is yeast like Julia said you'll probably need a script for a yeast cream...Kahlan had a yeast rash at one point and it looked blistery and horrible and the yeast cream went on, stung a little, and 2 hours later it was almost gone. She's had a few yeast rashes since then and the stuff she was prescribed always got rid of it right away. we've also used her script (bad I KNOW lol) cream on Grey before when he got a yeast rash in the folds between his testicles and thighs and it always went right away too (called the ped to OK it first and he said "I can't say to share scripts but this stuff is expensive so just share the script" LOL).

I'm not a big fan of A&D it's never really worked IMO.

I don't know if I want to try baby powder, it's not a rash like a wet rash, if you know what I mean...it already looks dry.
