Hey I have hypothyroidism, and it didn't affect my fertility whatso ever. But either doctor could check for it. Some of the symptoms are being overly tired, gaining a little weight, and usually but not with all, having a lump on your throat. I just wanted to let you know though. Everyone is different so it could affect fertility, but it's mostly just your hormones are releasing the amount they should be. When I found out about my thyroid disorder, I didn't know I was pregnant, but taking tons of pregnancy tests and I had 40 tests over 6 months come out negative!!! On the 7th month got blood drawn for a pregnancy test and I was pregnant! So it's worth getting checked!! Good luck!
I had a part of my thyroid taken out last year and go in for testing every few months. I stopped going to the endocrinologist because the blood tests are normal. Now I just go to my family doc and it takes about 5 minutes to test, then 3 days for results.
Point is your family doc can do the test.
Sorry my computer is going nuts don't know why it posted my reply 3 times
I also have Hashimoto's, only found out after i went to a psychologist thinking i had post partum depression after my daughter was born - she was 9 months at the time. My GP did not want to listen to symptoms kept on saying its normal just had a baby and have 2 kids. Guess what i ended up having Hashimoto's
Make sure you have a Dr that listen and do the test and if they don't trust your instinct and find another one to do the testing. Once diagnosed find a good Endocrinologist/obgyn that has experience in thyroid related problems and will listen and take this condition seriously. I found out the hard way that not every Endocrinologist/Obgyn has the experience or knowledge about thyroid disease and pregnancy - it might not be there area of speciality.
Take care hope you get diagnosed soon or at least of not Thyroid - find the problem

Either one of the doctors can run the tests for you. My OB would draw the blood but my endo would review the results while I was pregnant. Hypothyriodism could def affect your feritlity. I would get the lab work done and go to an endocrinologist if needed. But your OBGYN should be able to get the lab work taken care of.
I have hashimoto's... you should speak to your family doctor about it if you are concerned. There are some pretty serious symtoms you would be having though if you were hypothyroid. These symptoms would have (most likely) already put up a red flag in your practioner's mind if you were hypo. Hopefully you are not :)
If your primary care doctor sees something wrong with your blood work, they may refer you to an endochronologist. Good luck!
