To vaccinate or not to vaccinate that is the question

I know this will cause a lot of controvery so if you want to argue please dont even bother ... Everyone is entitled to their own opinions so lets be respectful and this is my question. I am really leaning towards not vaccinating, i know 3 families who havent and their children are perfectly healthy. Also, with the whole rubella vaccine and autism thing, although they claim there is NO LINK, i also know four families and mothers who claim after that vaccine their child changed. Idc what sciene says, a mothers intuition kbows best ... One of these includes my mother so i am not sure whether or not i want to vaccinate ... Any other mamas not wanting to?

With any thing you have to look at benefit vs risk, which is greater wins out. If the vaccine has a greater risk to your child then the virus or disease then don't get it. But look into what real risks the vaccine has because some of the responses on here against vaccines were just crazy and did not make too much since. Anywhere to government paranoia to the parent offering to sacrifice the child due to over population. People like that is what makes people like me who have one or two vaccines they are against. Good luck on your research.

Thanks fot everyones input all something to consider. Im going to talk to a few more pediatricians and a few more collegues of mine. I have my degree in psych specializing in autism. Rubella is the one of concern to me honestly as i said before and where i live you can go to school without vaccines but we shall see. Again thanks for all the input

There are some like the chicken pox vaccine that I do not agree with. I do however think there is some that are very important. I have a immune suppressed daughter that had her vaccines but had them wiped out once we found out she was born with cancer and she had chemo. She now has to be re- vaccinated. If she was to get one of Thames illnesses because some idiot thought it was a good idea not to vaccinate their kid cause it was there choice I would hurt someone.

Yes I do believe that the world is overpopulated because they vaccinate against far too much. I do believe that the diseases are around and resurface every so often to downsize the population or at least they did before we made them almost non existent. But the weak someone spoke of is our babies and children, I will not sacrifice my child to down size the population.

If it is recommended and almost forced so that everyone is getting them, why would I refuse it for my child and risk their lives. After my children all had the chicken pox vaccine and during my last pregnancy they all developed the chicken pox in a full blown case I will not be getting them for any of my other children. There is no reason to get them an extra shot when the risk of bad side effects of the virus itself is very low. But the risk of bad effects of polio is not so low and the same for most others. If you people want to risk your children that is your business but keep them home,  do not take them to public parks or stores and do not send them to public school to risk the children of others who can not be vaccinated or that have suppressed immune systems. IT IS YOUR CHOICE TO RISK YOUR CHILDREN AND YES YOU HA E THAT RIGHT BUT IT IS NOT YOUR CHOICE TO RISK THE CHILDREN OF OTHERS AND YOU DO NOT HAVE THAT RIGHT.

I'm the mother of an autistic child. I'd vaccinate again in a heartbeat. The only thing vaccines did to my son was prevent him from getting diseases that could kill him. Do research....legit research. Blogs on the Internet do not count as legit sources.

The vaccine that they say causes autism is a three in one cocktail. If you ask for it split up then there is no risk. I plan to vaccinate and I plan to do each one individually.

in my opinion, vaccines are just the governments way of population control. and to each their own, but I have very little trust in the government. but seriously, think about it. how many vaccines were out when we were children (im 24 btw), and how many vaccines are out for the kiddos these days? my uncle (who somewhat works in the medical field) argued with me about picking and choosing which vaccines to give my son. he went home and did some research apparently, bc a few days later he was apologizing for arguing with me and understood why I chose to go about it the way I did.

unfortunately, my mom has taken my kid to a lot of his appts so im sure he's gotten quite a bit of vaccines that I did not want him to have. literally, the only one im sure he hasn't gotten yet was his chicken pox vaccine. that one is completely stupid imo and I don't see why anyone would choose to get it/give it.

but this time around, I aim to be the one to take the kid to the majority of checkups or at least let the doctors know which vaccines my fiancé and I will or will not allow to be given to our child.

my best advice to you would be, do as much research as you can handle doing. decide ahead of time which vaccines you'll allow for, if any and make it very clear to the doctor what your choices are. If you decide to not vaccinate at all, then your best bet would probably be to find an all natural doctor.

and also, look into your state laws on vaccinating. here in sc, I knew a girl signing her son up for kindergarten and all she had to do was sign a paper saying she didn't vaccinate bc it was against their religious beliefs (and they weren't even religious whatsoever!). but my best friend in Tennessee is opting out of vaccinating and she was told she'd have to accept a misdemeanor charge and fine for choosing to go this route.

A lot of schools and daycares wont accept your child if they are not vaccinated. Also getting into a good university as an adult requires updated vaccines...so even if u avoid them now for your children, it will eventually have to be done in the future. And i think the vaccinations Wil just be a requirement for more and more places as time passes. I foresee my 18year old having to have all his vaccines no matter where he attenda college.  And some careers require their employees to have them. Just dont think its avoidable forever and I couldn't forgive myself if I didn't give my baby the vaccines and the flu killed him.

don't vaccinate!! its something i feel so strongly about. my daughter has never had any vaccinations and i dont plan on vaccinating the baby  girl im currently pregnant with. i also wouldn't even get them for myself. its absolutely NOT mandatory so dont let any doctor make you feel like you have to. lastly, you can most def still enroll your child in both school and daycare as long as you get a exemption, which isnt the easiest thing to do but it most def can be done. they can't force you to vaccinate. best of luck to u :-)

One last comment, there has never been any scientific proof of a link between vaccines and autism.  Oh, have they tried to make that link with many dedicating their professions and lives to it but there has not been a link proven.  It's been dispelled many many times and the myth began when vaccines used to contain mercury in them.  That has long since been removed and you'd be more apt to find mercury in a can of tuna than your child's vaccines.

We've looked into this extensively for a family member on the spectrum and never found vaccines to be the reason for developmental issues that occurred.  I'm a big proponent for research on autism and have worked closely with that field and know how difficult it is to parent a child with autism.

anyway, a subject near and dear to my heart, autism that is.  luck to all

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/04/24/cdc-vaccine-benefits/8094789/  Title: vaccines save hundreds of thousands of lives.

And here is an excellent summary of why vaccinating is important and why the CDC recommends it (with the CDC being our biggest center for guidelines for health safety).

There is no reason to not have your children vaccinated as it is for their own protection and that of all around them.  That is very different than pain relief during child birth.  Doctors, the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization are very clear that vaccines are important.

In my state, it is difficult to enroll children into public school or private schools if not up to date with vaccinations for the protection of all of the students.

It's someone's choice for sure but it goes against what our medical community recommends for the safety of all children.

Some schools will not allow your child to attend if the vaccines aren't up to date. I was born in Idaho and didn't have to have certain vaccines but when I moved to Arizona I had to get them even though I was old enough not to have them. I still had to get them so I could attend school.

Specialmom- that is like saying there is really no reason not to get an epidural during pregnancy. All these vaccines and medications have made our immune systmes a LOT weeker then when we didn't have them. ( just note:its one of the reasons some places are getting over populated. Natual selection can no longer exist and the even the weak survive. Sorry that sounds really insensitive but in my opinion humans have become too smart too quicly.)

Summer9284- Very sorry for what happened to your borther.

It is dangerous to not vaccinate.  The CDC and WHO (world health organization) urge families to vaccinate.  It puts us all at risk when someone doesn't vaccinate.  Those kids live under the protection of the kids that do and eventually, it creates wholes in the process where diseases that are basically gone could resurface.  People take for granted what vaccinations do.  The days of polio and the fear families lived under---  read some stories of what it was like at that time.

There really is no reason not to vaccinate.  good luck

Jessie i was only 3 and a half when it happened but apparently he was a full functioning baby, hit his milestones faster than all of us, was verbal thej after he got the rubella vaccine my mom said it was like someone turned the lights off. My brother was in his own world, he didnt want to be touched or hugged but he would follow my mom everywhere. He would no longer may eye contact or even speak. He also completely stopped eating any cooked foods. He lived soley off of raw foods such as fruits and vegetables. Also, his sleep COMPLETELY changed. He would no longer sleep early. Hed keep my mom up till 4, 5 ot even 6 am on a daily basis and hed cat nap. A few months after that vaccine is when he got the diagnosis. The rest of my other siblings and i recieved the rubella vaccine but everyones body reacts to things differently. Ya know? For ex:.i.cant tolerate dairy all that well, but i am the only one in my family that has that issue. I just feel that if its a concern why even risk it ya know?

May I ask what happened with your brother? Don't let me overstep my boundery. If you don't want to talk about it then you don't have to. I understand family tragedies. My husband is against add/adhd meds bc his parents abused them with his brother.

To me it bepends on if you plan on breast feeding or not. If you are then I think of it as a big deal because your child will get their immunities from you. My family didn't get a flu Vaccination and we are all perfectly healthy. I also work around children and the elderly. Mind you, we have had sniffles and allergies but nothing out of the norm. If your not breast feeding you may want to allow certin vaccines. This is my first child so im a little uncertin Of what decision. To make as well. How does your husband/the father feel?

All I can say is do more academic research, then make your decision , don't go by what random family members or friends tell you because your not getting the whole story, or the medical side of the story.
