Too much weight gain?

I had a dr apt this morning and I gained 6 lbs since my last apt 3 1/2 weeks ago. She said 'not bad but could be better' meaning it was too much. I've only gained 13 lbs total and I'm 24w 3d. I thought I was doing pretty good. If I gain 1 lb a week from here to the end, give or take, that would put me right at 30-35 lbs total and I thought that was a good goal..? Any thoughts?

by 24 weeks, i had gained around 10 lbs.. in total i only gained 24 lbs...  my weight gain was interesting though...  one week i would gain nothing then the next week i would gain 2 lbs.. i even gained 4 lbs in one week near the end of my pregnancy then i stopped gaining weight at 37 weeks.. i weighed 124 at 37 weeks and i weighed 124 at 39 weeks ....

but just keep an eye on it as sudden weight gain can be a warning sign for some complications but it could just be the way you gain.. though, i did not gain too much weight i didnt gain it nicely at 1 lb a week... it really varied from 30 weeks until 32 weeks, i didnt gain anything then when i went  back at 33 weeks,  i had jumped up 4 lbs....  so it all varies....

In the beginning I was losing weight! So by 20 weeks I had finally gained 3 pounds... then shortly after here came 41 more!!! I gained 44 pounds!!! And I definitely felt it, too lol

It's hard with cravings, ( even though I'm not pregnant now, those cheesy fries with sour cream sounds SOOOO good!!! LOL)  but watching some of the things you eat will help.. mainly salt & soda's was my problem. I still drank them and wanted salty and sour chips.

I wouldn't worry about it. Every pregnancy is different and we all gain weight differently, too.

"can't prevent weight gain no matter what they do" OH YEAH. That was me all the way! I hadn't gained a single pound at 25 weeks pregnant with my daughter, and by the end of it I'd gained 35-40. Yeah, gained it ALL in the last 14 weeks. I didn't pig out, I didn't eat a lot of junk, none of that. I was less active the third trimester because I was anemic and got out of breath walking the 10 feet to the fridge from my living room for a drink. BUT same thing happened with my son. I'd only gained four pounds in the first four months with him, and ended up with about 35 pounds total weight gain. Just make sure you eat small meals throughout the day instead of big ones, exercise when you can, and try to cure the junk cravings in moderation. I LOVED LOVED LOVED cheesy french fries with sour cream with BOTH of mine, but I only had them once every few weeks/a month. That was really my only bad craving.

I actually gain the most weight during my 2nd trimester.  I get really sick during the first and beginning of my 2nd trimester.  Once I stop that part, my body tends to hold on to everything I put in it since it has been rejecting everything, including liquids, for weeks.  So I gain the bulk of my weight during that 2nd trimester and not the 3rd.  I have read what Ashelen has said about the biggest weight gain being in the 3rd trimester, but that has never been true for me with 7 pregnancies so that might not be the case for you either.  With some of my pregnancies I have literally not gained anything for the last 4-6 weeks of my pregnancy.  Don't worry.  I am sure it is fine.

BTW, I am a pretty healthy eater by nature.  I buy/cook only lean meats, eat veggies, fruits, yogurt, etc.  But that has never really affected my weight it seems...not even in a good way.  If you are eating pretty good (no one should deprive themselves/moderation is key), then you will gain what you gain.

With my last pregnancy, I gained about 33 lbs. and I exercised more than I ever have and that just didn't matter.  At one point and much into my 3rd trimester, I was walking 3 miles, 4x per week.  Again, I still gained continually but I knew I was doing things right and that was all that mattered.

Plus we had Thanksgiving in there! I obviously ate more that day than I do any other day, and besides Christmas, I won't be eating like that again. Id like to think I'm right on track, but I will def keep an eye on the scale and keep making healthy choices with my food. Thanks for your input!

I think I know why she said it...if it's been about 3 1/2 wks, you gained almost 2lbs a week. Your biggest weight gain will come in the 3rd trimester. So if you're starting to average 2lbs a week, and you know that you'll gain the most in the 3rd trimester...you can see where that might become a problem.

HOWEVER...I wouldn't worry too much, personally. We all have times when we gain a lot or lose a lot, or don't gain or lose any, and it doesn't necessarily reflect the way the rest of the pregnancy will go.

Just keep an eye on your portions and make sure you're eating healthy and exercising, and try not to worry! Do keep an eye on the scale though, because if your weight gain starts to pick up like it does for most women in the 3rd trimester, you'll want to be hyper vigilant about making sure you're exercising and making healthy choices....but this could just be one of those time periods where you gained a few lbs in a cluster, and you'll even out. I wouldn't stress, just be aware :-). Some women can't prevent weight gain no matter what they do, and that just may be a reality to face.
