Ugh, I have Group B Strep.

I'm so concerned. Just reading what can happen to my baby is making me feel terrible :( I know its not that big of a deal as long as I'm given antibiotics during labour, but I can't help but feel a little uneasy about it. Anyone else have it/had it in a previous pregnancy? I need some positive stories!

Thats also what I'm kind of paranoid about, I'm 37+4 and havent been checked for dilation. Makes me nervous because I know it can pass to the baby this way. My ob is just so busy she rushes our appointments. I love free health care living here in Canada but the level of thoroughness is compromised because my ob has so many other patients to look after. Its unfortunate.

I had it with my first pregnancy.  At 38 weeks I went for my doctor visit & since I was already dilated like 3 cm. they sent me to the hospital to start my antibiotics & get induced. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy and nothing happened to him. As long as you have the antibiotics you'll be fine (:

Its just bacteria we all have in our bodies that can cause infection in our babies. It's present in our intestines but sometimes can be present in the vagina/rectum. You get swabbed for it between 35 and 37 weeks @Pamela128. If you're positive you have to have antibiotics during labour. I'm just worried even with antibiotics something will happen to my son :(

I had it with my last pregnancy. I got antibiotics when I got to the hospital and my daughter came out fine. A lot of women have it but don't worry, I'm sure you'll be fine!

I have it too, nothing we can do about it. But as long as we get antibiotics during labor, baby will be perfectly fine (:
