Unisom

I have a few questions about taking Unisom. I was told that it's safe to take if you're having troubles sleeping, so I'm really interested in it because I can't stand staying up all night long and sleeping during the day. But I'm curious as to how others have reacted to it and what they think. I read a few reviews on it, and people said it causes a whole load of side effects such as nausea, a "hangover" feeling and random other things. Has anyone tried it with success and did they have any negative effects from it?

I also have a high tolerance to a lot of medicines. I've been given sleep aids in the past and none of them really worked with success, so I'm hoping this one may work.

My Dr. prescribed me this with Vitamin B6 for my nausea and vomiting, not because I couldn't sleep, but he told me that the Unisom is to help me sleep at night. I bought the Unisom sleep gels at Wal Mart, and used them with the Vitamin B6 it only helped me not vomit at night because it would knock me out lol. My Dr told me to take it every 8 hours as needed, I found that I could not take it during the day as it would knock me out, so I was stuck with my nausea and vomiting for the day time =0( I had no side effects from taking it what so ever, I actually felt very refreshed in the mornings since I didn't wake up at night to vomit or pee =0) I stopped taking them awhile ago back though because I got better pills for my nausea and vomiting.

I had to take Unisom in my early pregnancy for my insomnia... It was the only thing that my doctor felt was safe unless it didn't work then they were talking about giving me Ambien. I didn't have a single problem with it except that it stopped working after a few weeks because I also have a high tolerance to meds too.

Yeah. They both have Diphenhydramine in them. I was told to take the one that has Doxylamine succinate in it.

unisom is basically benadryl which is a pregnancy safe medication.  look at the back of a unisom box and a benadryl box and it shows the same active ingredient.

I'm not sure about Unisom...I know that I was in the hospital, for kidney stones when I was pregnant with my daughter and one night they asked if I needed help sleeping and I said yes and they gave me Ambien....I didn't think about it until after I had taken it and I was like what?! a sleep-aid?! and then I was asleep and didn't budge until the next morning, lol. I know of at least 2 other women that were prescribed Ambien during pregnancy for OCCASIONAL sleepless nights...maybe you could look into that? Unisom seems like it wouldn't be that effective to me but I dunno maybe someone else has experience with it.
