VERY confused on stress delays your period thing!

Ok so everyone keeps telling that stress delays OVULATION it does not delay your PERIOD. So if this is the case why I am reading ALL over the internet that if you worry about being pregnant or want it really bad and you're not it can delay your period?? What if you weren't stressed around the time of ovulation and like me you're having all the symptoms of pregnancy but negative HPT's and just wanna know, so there's a possibility because I'm stressed about what's going on that I'm delaying it even more? When I thought it was the fact that the STRESS delays OVULATION?? Makes absolutely NO sense to me! I'm very confused..... Does anyone know the REAL truth? My Dr. has said it delays ovulation as well and if you ovulate then your lutheal phase stays the same and you shed the lining of your uterus and have your period. Nothing can change that once you've already ovulated. So how in the heck if I ovulated when I did can I be starting late just from stressing over the fact I havent had my period? Sorry this is so long I'm just frustrated I dont feel good and these tests are negative and all I can find is "relax and you'll start your period" to other people's post when I always have thought it's delayed your ovulation!

Well i have learned just bcuz you have the signs and symptoms dont always mean you ovulated, and opk's are not 100% accurate. Doing BBT does take the guess work out of things and is the best method of determing if ovulation occured.

My best friend was usin opk's and going off her signs and symptoms and swore up n down she was ovulating. She went to dr, they drew test days after her cycle and did u/s, come to find out, she was not ovulating every month even though she was having ewcm and pains on the side.  She does have endometrious and is having a surgery this summer to she can start back ttc.  She had been ttc for a year and 1/2 with no results b4 she went to dr.

I just wanted to add, stress can be caused my a lot of things and sometimes are body can be stressed and we dont even no it, or we think we have a handle over something and in reality we are stressed.  The body is an amazing piece of art, and the endocrine system plays so many roles in our body.

No because we weren't actively trying. This happened 4-5 days before O. I just know every month when I O its very painful. Dr., thinks I may have the beginning of Endometriosis and I have had cysts in the past, so that time of the month is not normal and very painful for me.

However, I just started so am relived. Just goes to show that even though you have sore bbs and NEVER get sore bbs before you start your period, along with feeling sick, and all the other symptoms I had doesn't mean you're pregnant. I have been blessed with four beatiful children, but at this time am getting ready to start school on my Psychology major and am working full-time with kids. We're going to try in a few years for another, but wasn't trying at this time, however would have been very welcomed.

Thanks for everything ladies you've been a wonderful help! =) And good luck to all TTC!~

Have you thought about using another method other than looking at your cm to determine ovulation.  Using something like basal body temping or opks can really take the guess work out and confirm ovulation with secondary signs such as ewcm, twinges, urges etc.

Good luck!

I understand that but I'm pretty sure I ovulated when I did. That's what my whole point is, I wasn't stressed at all around the time of ovulation so ovulation shouldn't have been late. I hate the EWCM a few days before ovulation should have occured 2/4 and then the next day had sticky/dry CM and I get pain when I ovulate and twinges and can't stay off my DH (sorry TMI lol!) so I'm pretty darn sure I ovulated on time! Anyway took another test this morning with first morning urine, negative. So I'm just assuming I'm not. I will have my Dr. run a blood test Monday to completely rule it out and then that way if I don't start next month I can get something to jump start it. So weird though. Guess maybe with age things change because this has never ever happened before.

The reason they say stress delays ovulation, thus delaying your period, is because stress affects your hormones. You entire cycle is based on hormonal changes.

Also, your period will come 14 days after ovulation. If your period is late, it is because your ovulation was late.

I used a first response, but the one I used I found out you had to have a minimum of a 100 HCG count to detect it. I thought all first responses were early detection. Guess not! I just went out and bought a pack of 3, equate brand! On POAS.com it says they pic up at 25, let's hope so!

Maybe it is still too early for a test then? hmmmm I would definitely use FMU and see. There have been plenty of women on here who tested and got negatives and waited a couple of days and had a positive. I am the same way...I am like clockwork...every 28 days and when I'm late it's usually because I'm pregnant. But there are maybe 3 times in a year when I just ovulate late for some reason and have a cycle that is 35-40 days! crazy. What brand of tests are you using? I really like First Response...I also bought tests online that measure at 25 I believe...they are very cheap and worked great for me.
Good luck and hopefully you will have some answers soon!

Well I don't know that anyone is every 100% sure even with the ovulation predictor kits, but yes as sure as I can be. I always have an abundent amount of CM during ovulation, I get ovulation pains and twinges. I had this at 14 days which is when I have it EVERY month, I'm a clockwork 28 day woman so I have no idea what's going on! It's so frustrating. My GP said he'd do a blood test today but I said no since the results wouldn't be back unit Monday and figured if I was I would get a positive on a HPT before then. However, if I'm still getting negative's and no period monday all I have to do is call and he will send me over to have it done, and hopefully I will get it back on Tuesday. This is so confusing =( only time i've been late is because I'm pregnant. It will be even more depressing tomorrow if I use FMU and I have a test that picks up at 25 I will know then that its pretty much a neg. I haven't used first morning urine yet with a sensitive test so hoping that helps.

Thanks for your response. Any others are very welcomed as well.

Are you 100% sure you ovulated? I hear your frustration...I've had a few cycles start VERY late and it just ended up that I ovulated very late that month. (so basically my period wasn't late, it was on time, it was ovulation that was late) I thought I knew for sure when I ovulated, but I was completely wrong. Once you ovulate, you will get your period 2 weeks later. Stress can delay it, as well as, a change in your diet, being overweight, or underweight and I'm sure a number of other things.
Are you trying to get pregnant? If so I would just wait another week if your period doesn't show and test again. If it's negative, I would talk to you doc and maybe they can do some blood tests to see what is going on.
I hope I haven't confused you anymore!! Hopefully someone else can shed some light on this issue!
