WHY?

So hubby and I were thinking about getting a fertility monitor.  I am thinking about the OvaCue Fertility Monitor.  However all the monitors I have looked at say that having Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome can effect the results.  Why is this?  Does anyone know?

thanks so much for the info.  My ob mentioned trying one round of birth control but i was leary of the idea.  What type did you do?  My ob recommended a very low dose type.  What do you think?  You think the monitors work better if I buy one rather than renting?

I have PCOS and came off of birth control and it worked for me the first month. I used the clear blue easy ovulation monitor. It is a bit pricey, but it's my understanding they tend to work better if you don't share betwen other women. It will keep data for 6 months internally and so if your levels are a little high it should pick that up as a base line.
I was diagnosed about 5 years ago with PCOS after trying to concieve for over a year and half on my own. I went through a year of fertility treament and they pretty much told me that I needed to try invitro or adopt. I couldn't afford invitro so I went on birth control to keep my periods regular. About a year later I didn't take my birth control and somehow without my knowing ovulated on my own. I was pregnant that very month. My son is now 2 and the love of my life.
My husband and I wanted to try for another and so I asked my doctor for a birth control prescription and I took one months worth and once
I got my period I started using the ovulation monitor (once it told me to) and I got pregnant on the first month. I am now 9 weeks pregnant and all my hormone levels and the baby looks great so far.
My doctor says he's going to try this method with several other patients who have been diagnosed with PCOS. It seems to be my little secret potion to getting pregnant.
Good luck in whatever you decide, I just wanted to share my story because I remember the void of wanting a child so badly and not being able to have one.

Ya, I would rent one rather than buy it to see how it works for you. The fertility monitors are not cheap. I bought one right after I got off of birth control and my cycles were so screwy that it didn't even help me at all.

I just read something similar but that's strange b/c I know the Ovulation sticks are the same way but when I was almost 100% sure i was ovulating the stick just had a faint line...not the other way around.  The one I am thinking about getting measures LH along with some other things.  Hopefully it will work.  Maybe I dont have a high LH level.  Thanks for the info.  I guess I will just try it and see.  I am going to rent one from the company.

I found this online: "Often fertility monitors are not accurate for women with PCOS because they have high levels of LH so their ovulation kits are often always faintly positive." So I guess that means you will never be able to tell exactly when you're ovulating??
