Was having your membranes stripped a success??

I will be 38 weeks Friday. I've been seeing my OB every week for the past 3 weeks. My first week he did an internal exam and I was dilated 1cm. My second week I was 2 cm dilated and 40% effaced. This week I was 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced. He decided to strip my membranes. This was yesterday at 10 am. I had a lot of discharge which is normal for me after an checking for dilation. But today It seems as though there is crazy amounts of a slim like discharge. I lost my Mucus plug weeks ago and it keeps regenerating and i continue to loose it over and over again. Sorry if TMI. I just want to know others success stories with having their membranes stripped or if once again, I have high hopes for no reason.

Well, I just wanted to update everyone. Tuesday, I went to the doctor for my weekly check up and found out that I was leaking amniotic fluid. I was sent to the hospital for monitoring, was induced at 2:30pm because my membranes had ruptured and gave birth to a healthy 6lb 14oz 20" baby boy at 12:43 that night!

It didnt work for me at all.  It just made me have some uncomfortable, unproductive contractions that were way spaced out.  This went on for 5 days before they decided to induce me.  Good luck

No worries.I'm not offended. This is my first baby and I am very nervous. I have a great doctor and I have total confidence with him. I would love to deliver this baby naturally and vaginally, but I have no control over that as well. Everyone in my family has had to have a c-section because their hips wont spread. I'm hoping to beat the odds. I've mentioned this to my doctor and he says that he really wants to try for a vaginal birth, but if we have to do a c-section he will be prepared. I've been pretty fortunate enough to have a simple and smooth pregnancy. I just hope my luck continues through out labor.

Thanks! I'm really hoping that this works, but I wont be discouraged if it doesn't.

stripping my membranes didn't work with DD....i have to chip in my personal experience/opinion on this I don't mean to offend!!

I had talked about inducing electively because my son is going to be a monster too, but since then all sorts of health problems and complications have occurred and now I have no choice but to be induced at 38 1/2wks (they would've done ita few days sooner but my cardiologist wants me to keep my heart-rate low for several days before the induction so that I have a better chance of a sustained labor and can do it vaginally otherwise I may overtax my heart and be forced into a c-section)...and now that I'm faced with asking my baby to come out before he's ready, I would do anything to be able to not induce, but I have no choice because my health is at serious risk that increases the longer the pregnancy continues.

I know that a big baby is scary but from what I understand inducing is a higher chance of c-section than a big baby, especially if your family has a history of big babies your body is probably fairly prepared for his size. I'm guessing this is your first baby? If you want to schedule an induction the best thing to do would be to schedule it for like 41wks...that way he stays in as long as possible because first babies always take longer to mature but at the same time you'll have a date set and you'll know you don't have to go post-term.

Like I said I really don't mean to offend so I'm sorry if I did, but at this point if I could let my boy come when he's ready instead of forcing him out I would let him choose his own time, 100% hands-down.

good luck with whatever you decide, maybe the membrane strip will work and your baby will choose to come sooner rather than later!

My doctor says my baby is going to be big and he doesn't want me going past my due date. Next week if I'm still at 2cm we are going to talk about inducing. Everyone in my family has given birth to 10 lb babies.

Is there a reason he did that before 39 weeks?

It will only work if your baby is ready to come. Give him as much opportunity to finish growing in the womb before making his entrance into the world. Good luck!

It was a HUGE success for me. I had it done twice, once when I was 38 weeks, which sent me into stalled labor, then again a day before my due date, and that time set me into active labor. I went to my appointment at 1pm and was in L&D at 5pm.

I plan on having it done again once I reach the 39 week mark.
