Just figured Iwould update a bit.... I began taking the Flovent inhaler andthe nasel spray! Ihave had a little chest tightning and called the doctor and he said it was probably the inhaler causing it and it should get better... I do feel better so the doctor said it is nothing serious but it a little anxiety (which is differentfrom an anxiety attack, considering all the stress I have been under lately) as well as allergy induced asthma...Mold has been high here so I am thinkingthat may have something to do with it... He will probably see me in a month or so when it comesto me needing a refil on my inhaler and see if theya re really necessary... Honestly I think it is the nasel spray makingthings better since I have been on it a little longer!
I got your PM and wanted to encourage you to post this question in the Heart Forum! They'd know a lot more about panic/anxiety attacks because it can feel like a tightening in your chest (much like a heart problem) and breathlessness.
Thanks... I called my doctor today and told him what reaction the Clairtin had and asked a few questions.... He said he wants to see how I feel but believes I am having anxiety....
I was diagnosed as bipoler and depressed when I was 15. I was given antidepressents but went off of them a few years back. I never heard anything else about the bipoler.
Sometimes I think its me andI overreact. I think about thingstoo much e.g I think about breathing and I suddenly have trouble.....
I have never had any severe chest pains other than a little tightning once in a while; He said both heart and lungs sounded good when I was in office.... I am beginning to think depression is a key since it onlyreally happens at night when baby is in bed and I have time to think?????
I am not atall opposed to taking anti depressents but would like to be certin of the problem beforeI begin!
I would ask about nasonex in place of the fluticasone...that stuff is HORRIBLE. It made my nose feel so bad and everytime I blew it, it would bleed.
I took the clairitin and the nasel spraylastnight and I have been so tired since and have slept at least 12 hours so I looked on the bottle ofclairitin and it said may cause droussiness... I neeed to call the doctor about switching that! Will keep you posted!
I've been on all those meds and so have my kids.
ProAir - just a fast acting inhaler...I will tell you it makes you jittery and makes your heart beat faster...but it does help open airways if you are having trouble breathing. It's an inhaled steroid
Flovent HFA 110 mcg - preventative inhaler. it's supposed to work for about 12 hours by keeping the airways open...this is also an inhaled steroid i believe. I've never had any side effects from this one, neither have my kids.
Fluticasone Nasel Spray - I HATE HATE HATE this stuff. It made my nose bleed and drove me nuts. The ONLY nasal spray I will use is Nasonex. A doctor explained to me that most of the nasal sprays when used more than once or twice actually irritate the sinuses and cause inflammation which makes things worse. Nasonex does not do that.
Clairitin - just a simple allergy medicine. To be honest I never really noticed a difference between taking it and note...
Does your doc want you to come back and repeate the "breath in a tube" test? That's the only way to tell if the medicines are working. If you take them it should improve your breathing for the next test. But I seriously don't think it's asthma/allergies...me and 3 of my kids have history of breathing problems/allergies/asthma and none of us have ever experienced things like that. If it's not apnea. I would agree with Joy that it's most likely panic attacks. It does sound a great deal like them.
Sweetangel honestly I am scared to takeall these meds... I honestly think it iswhat joyrenee said with it beinga panic/anxiety attack. I havebeen really steressed lately...
OK this sounds stupid but last night right before bed I was eating sprees and chewed them up. The powdery consistancy that it makes when you chew the (hard condy) up makes me think.I believe (not positive) that Iwas eatingthesethe night it happend before.... Wonder if ithas something to do with the powder???
That is a lot of medicine for someone who isn't a chronic/bad asthmatic AND a lot of allergy meds. You should not have to take it forever as you aren't exhibiting any symptoms of asthma such as wheezing which is characteristic of an asthma attack which is why you would take the albuterol as a rescue measure. The flovent is a steroidal medication I believe and it is used to prevent an attack HOWEVER I truly do not think you were having asthma attacks (the coughing and losing breath) perhaps it is bronchitis but doesn't sound like that either. Sounds like he was too quick to push the asthma diagnosis. The peak flow meter is what he used to determine this and unless you couldn't blow at all, I doubt you need the inhalers. I am surprised he gave you soo much medication.
Good luck!
They were panic/anxiety attacks.
I am back. Today has been awful.... I still have a nurse come to my home from the insurance.... (long story) well she was suppose to be here at 12 and didnt arrive until 1:00. I had schudled a appointment with my doctor at 1:40 so she had to be fast...
I went to the doctor and he said that It seems as though I may have been getting bronchitis and not knowing it. He also mentioned that I may have Asthma as well as some allergies,,,, Well he had me do this thing where you blow into it and it measures how strong your brething is??? and I was a little on the low side!!!! (Im not sure what that means)
I asked about the Apenea andhe really didnt think that was it...... He perscribed me
ProAir (Albuterol sulfate) to use only as needed.
Flovent HFA 110 mcg 2 puffs by mouth every 12 hours
Fluticasone Nasel Spray 2sprays in each nostril daily
Clairitin 1 tablet by mouth daily...
For anyonewho knows anything about this will I have to takethis stuff forever??????
Joy did any of the ladies you know ever find out what it was from!
taht does not sound like any asthma syptom I've ever experienced (i have it) or heard of. It does however sound a lot like sleep apnea. My grandfather had it and he frequently woke up with the symptoms you have described. ANYONE of ANY AGE can have apnea. I would talk to your doctor about getting an in home apnea test. They bring out a monitor that you put on yourself before bed. just little patches connected to wires that stick to your chest. It will sound an alarm if it detects taht you've stopped breathing and it will record the results for the doctor to read. Atleast thats how they did it 13 years ago when my daughter had it done.
Definitely bring it up with your doctor but I have a few ideas up my sleeve depending on your responses to these questions.
Could definitely be sleep apnea. Do you feel overly tired during the day? Maybe thats not a good question for a young mother.
Any other symptoms with this? Does your heart race when this happens? Do you feel a little disorientated? A little sweaty? How long does it take before you feel like you are breathing normally again?
I've actually heard of a lot of women experiencing this when they are sleeping. Definitely bring it up to the doc. It could be that you do stop breathing when you sleep.
Nope, even children get sleep apnea. You should go to your doctor and see what he recommends. Asthma is very different, you have trouble breathing but its gradual and like Sweetangel said there's other symptoms.
My Dad has apena..... Im a little youngfor that arent I?
Hmmm...I've been asthmatic for 25 years and it doesn't sound like asthma to me BUT of course I am not a doctor lol It sounds like it could be apnea since it seems to be induced by your sleep. If you were asthmatic it wouldn't be so sporadic and you would have other symptoms such as tightness in the chest, wheezing etc. Regardless of what it is, you should call your doctor for a visit...not for a prescription.
