The above posters are not 100% accurate.. It depends what your doctor was looking at... I had a vaginal ultrasound twice, once at 31 weeks and once at 32... The doctor did the abdominal one with it though..
Your doctor should have been more clear with you on the purpose to the vaginal ultrasound...
My doctor did the vaginal ultrasound at that point to measure my cervix.. Perhaps he was checking for something like that.. all doctors are different and though cervix measurements are not rountinely done, it doesnt mean some doctors dont do them..
I would probably ask the doctor for the purpose of that ultrasound.. at 23 weeks, if he was just scanning the baby then the abdominal one ist he better choice
At 23 weeks you don't need a vaginal ultrasound. I would ask why they did it that way
It can be considered normal. It depends on the size of your fetus and your uterus. As the baby gets bigger he/she will be able to be seen through a sono that can be done on the belly.
Hope this has helped & congrats on your pregnancy!!
You're 23 weeks pregnant and your doctor did a vaginal ultrasound? No, that isn't too normal. There's no need for a vaginal ultrasound at that point-- it's mostly used in early pregnancy when you can't see the baby abdominally. I would talk to them and see why they did it. Maybe it's standard practice?
