A Healthy weight gain during pregnancy depends a lot on your pre pregnancy weight and if you have a singleton or multiple pregnancy.  Becuase I am overweight a healthy weight gain for me is about 15 lbs.  For someone who is at a normal weight for their heigh and build...25-35 lbs is a good average but remember everyone is different.  With my pregnancies....both of my girls I gained 25-26 lbs with both of my boys I gained around 15 each.

I only gained 4lbs in the first 4 months with DS and by the end I had gained 35. My doctor told me she didn't want me to gain more than 15, and was mad at me, but my baby was fine. I wasn't overweight to begin with. As long as you eat healthy and don't eat junk all the time you shouldn't gain too much. 18 months later I still need to lose 20 lbs. I don't get to go to the gym often, and don't have much time for working out at home, plus I had post pregnancy health issues so I haven't been able to lose all the baby weight. It's hard to lose for some, but easy for others. I read averages for what women should gain and if you're not obese 25-35 lbs is average on some sites.

I agree with Caddy... unfortunately some women just gain more while pregnant. all you can do is make healthy choices when you're eating, and maybe see if you can find an indoor pool (not TOO heated) in which you can swim and get some exercise... keep walking! you can also do pregnancy yoga to increase blood flow and stay gently active...staying active even when you can't go outside is a big part of making labor and delivery easier (even though some women are VERY active and have a tough time) it's one of the few things you can do to help before delivery.... even just walking around your house... but just make sure that when you go for a snack you pick up something healthy and beyond that don't stress about it!

its not good to stop gaining weight while your pregnant you should just let your body do what it does best to give for your unborn child it you gain over your limit oh well
i feel that having the child in your life after will give you motivation to lose weight
im going to exercise with my child watching and talk to him while im doing it lol
like go for a run around the block with him in his stroller good exercise you know

I'm at 40 weeks and have gained about 30 total - which is right where I was last time by the end, too.  I think that's the "recommended" amount to gain, but it totally varies from woman to woman and body type to body type.

With that being said....I apparently lost 4 pounds since my last OB appointment a week ago.....he asked if I was eating ok (which I am).  I've been walking more, now that I'm off work.....but I seriously just think they have a calibration problem with the scale at their office ;-)

Thanks guys.  I just don't want to gain too much or too little.. u know.   and My sister gained like 45 lbs and my best friend gained 75lbs.  I eat a lot and snack a lot, but Ive always been able to do that and not gain weight.  I'm just afraid of gaining too much, cause no I do not work out, I never have before I got pregnant cause I never needed to, and my doctor told me if I never use to then I shouldn't now, cause my body isn't used to it.  is he right? I walk as much as I can. its winter and snowy cause I live in Michigan. So I cant get out much and I don't work so I don't want to sit around and just gain weight.. lol I was hoping to not go over gaining 35 lbs, that's my limit. Is that a good limit, and how do I keep with that limit?

oh and just to add my sister-in-law gained 65lbs with her pregnancy with her son and my cousin gained 75lbs during pregnancy with her daughter.... so it is possible to gain a lot more and still have a healthy baby, but as long as you're making healthy choices and exercising you shouldn't worry about weight gain at all..it's one of the joys of pregnancy. (I definitely don't recommend doing what my SIL and coz did though...they both had very unhealthy habits during pregnancy!)

I lost 20lbs during the first trimester with my daughter and only gained 18 during the pregnancy so I left the delivery room 2lbs lighter than pre-pregnancy...but I was heavy to begin with (not huge but definitely overweight) so it wasn't a concern for the OBs as long as the baby was growing..

and when this pregnancy I lost 16 during the first trimester and I am starting to level out now (14 1/2wks) so we'll see... anything between 10-30lbs is normal from what I understand :). less for heavier women, more for lighter women...but anywhere in the range is good as long as the baby's growth is steady!

I am 33 weeks and I've gained about 22-25 lbs.  Depending on the day.  It's all belly, so I'm not worried and neither is my midwife.  By month 6 I had only gained about 10 lbs.  So you're fine!  If the baby is healthy, then everything is good!  Once you hit your 8 months (where I am now) the weight will start getting there!

i am almost 26 weeks pregnant and ive gained about 11 pounds and it all recently just hit me around the end of december...i think now is a big growth spurt time for the baby because ive been starving as well!! as long as your staying healthy and taking care of yourself i dont think you need to be worried about your weight gain :) just dont look at the scale anymore and remember that you have to get bigger and gain more weight in order to get a baby in the end! your doing it all for the baby!

With my first pregnancy, I had only gained 5 pounds by my 5th month, but then the dreaded 6 and 7 month check ups came and I put on about 8 pounds each time.  Seems like that 6th month hits pretty hard.  You are doing fine - - I wouldn't worry.

I am 29 weeks and just had an OB appointment yesterday and have gained a total of 10 pounds. My OB says it's fine, so your numbers seem good to me. Everyone gains differently and at different paces, so if your doctor isn't worried, then you are fine. :)
