Welcome Baby Carter Alfred

Time line---
Feb 23rd---Reached 36 weeks and finally allowed off bedrest---10 long weeks of strict bedrest, 5 of them in the hospital
37 weeks- dealing with dropping sugars...cutting back insulin and having to eat way more to keep sugars up, had to get biophysicals done twice a week

Monday/tues march 2/3 i was sure i was in labour, all the signs but each night when i went to bed things would stop
Wed march 4th went to l&d because of cervical pressure...Dr saw me immeadilty, 2cm dialated and head right there so she admitted me, sure i would have the baby the next morning if not that night. had to have a shot of pain med because of back contractions., Thurs morning released and jokengly told see you sat at 3am

Sat 5am we went to l&d because i had been awake all night will pressure and back pain. Dr did u/s and said she didn't like my placenta and fact i had stopped taking all insulin. Asked me to stay there for observation till she came back that afternoon
She admitted me and told me i would be induced on monday. I was allowed to go home but had to go back for monitering (canada health care, i didn't have to pay for my room)

Monday March 9th 38 weeks....induction postponed due to more serious case, small hospital can only induce 1 a day to allow for other deliveries. was told to expect a 8 1/2 - 9 lber...decided i would get an epidural

Tues March 10th, induction delayed till afternoon (due to someone in labour) around 2pm we got started. Babies heartbeat started rising, as did my blood pressure. Babe's heart rate was 188, and i wasn't having ANY contractions. Drgot changed for a section but the OR was occupied for another hour or two. She really wanted me to have a natural birth because of all the complications i had had with the pregnancy. Stopped the picton around 5pm

Wed March 11th, Casenurse upset me by telling me my induction was not going to happen because of another serious case. Dr came 10 minutes later and said we would be starting soon.
9:00---picton started. Dr was down in clinic, kept calling to see if i started contracting yet
10:30 still no contractions...Dr came and broke my water, contractions started
11:30 said i felt like a bowel movement...they checked me i was 6cm and called for an epidural, was told 45 minutes.
12:30 Too Late for epidural, time to start pushing
1:56 Baby Boy was born. I had to be cut and lost a lot of blood. He came out face up . it was a rough delivery. about 1/2hr after delivery babe started showing signs of distress and had to be taken to incubator, i only got to hold him for 5 minutes

Later that night i called the nurse to go to the bathroom, another nurse came and tried to help me up....i had sevear pain and cried out. She went to get myy nurse, who told me i need to get out of bed and should be trotting around by now. They tried to get up...i was screaming in pain I couldn't feel my legs. the other nurse said to get a bedpan, my nurse complained saying that there was none on that floor and it took her 20 minutes to get one.
i tried  to get  my legs working, i could move below my knees but not from my hips to my knees. The next time for bathroom, two nurses got me up...the finally realized i couldn't feel my legs, i had to just suffle my feet from side to side to get to the bathroom, on the way back i could slightly lift one leg maybe an inch or two off the floor.
My baby had to stay in the incubator all night, fianlly at 5:30 i woke my husband to take me to him...i hadn't seen him since the afternoon before and we hadn't named him yet...we named him Carter and held off on middle name.
The next morning the Dr said it was nerve pain from being so swollen...i was prety beat up down there.
On friday i asked to show the Dr how i couldn't move...knowing i was due to be sent home. I couldn't lift my legs enough to put my slippers on, my legs would only move out rather then front to back...she then realized it was more then nerve pain....
Pelvic Seperation
She said i would be released on the weekend. But the Dr (on the weekend...i dealt with 2 ob's all week depending who was on duty)....wanted me to see physio.... i was in no shape to go home, sunday was the worst, plus it was the first night we had the baby with us all night and he was up every hour.
Monday morning i felt much better and knew i could go home..the physio saw me and ok'd my release, i had to get a support belt and cant lift or due much for 6 weeks.

My husband was to decied on middle name...we had a few on our list, but then he asked if we use his dad's name who had passed away when dh was little...i said of course even though he had shot the idea down everytime i had suggested it.

carter "USUSALLY" sleeps really well, sometime 5 and six hours which is good,,,usually only up once a night...but not taking that for granted! (since last night was a rough night)

Congrats on your precious boy!  Sorry things were so rough on you..  You never can know what to expect of L & D.
Anyway, sounds like you have a pretty good sleeper; maybe he is making up for the hard time he gave his mama during birth!

Goodness me!  An epidural-free induced delivery complete with episiotomy  and pelvic separation!  After that, you can do anything, right?

I hope you are starting to feel better now and getting a chance to enjoy your precious Carter after such a rough time.

so sorry to hear that your pregnancy and delivery had such complications. but at least you have your beautiful carter to remind you that it was worth it.

i agree with leighanne... they grow so fast and before you know it..it is time for first day in preschool/kindergarten... believe me i have 3 kids and am due in june with number 4. my youngest is 6 and it feels like i JUST had him... time flies so quickly and they grow so fast. i am sure that even with some bad nights that things will get better. good luck to you and will keep you and your family in my thoughts.
