What can I do about vein problems?

My cousin just had a varicose vein rupture at 37 weeks. Doc ordered bed rest and she has to see a specialist. She's got other little ones so bed rest isn't going to be much of an option. :-( If she keeps bleeding, they'll have to induce early.
I'm concerned about her, and possible genetic risk. Is there anything I can do to minimize the risk of developing problem veins, or rupturing one?
