What is the earliest you can hear baby's heart beat?

I was just wondering if DH and I would hear our little one's heart beat at our first appointment.  We should be about 7 weeks by then.  Is that too early?

Thanks guys!  I will be satisified by seeing the heartbeat!   Just as long as I know everything is okay!

apparently its not very good to hear the babys heartbeat in the first trimester as it 'upsets' them... its like the equivalent of a helicopter hovering over your house apparently. i heard my babies h/b at 17/18 weeks for the first time. the wait was agonising but well worth it. i first saw my sons h/b at 6wk4d though!
all the best to you and happy listening :-)

You probably wont HEAR it, BUT you may SEE it on an ultrasound. I saw mine at 5w6d. It was a tiny blinking light. lol, I got lucky and could see it early before you could even see the baby.

the earliest by doppler is approximately 12 weeks and remember the baby has to be cooperative! we do not even search until that time.

I had an internal u/s at about 6 1/2 weeks and saw a heartbeat.  With a doppler I heard a heartbeat at 12 weeks - when I was in at 8 weeks they didn't even try to find it.

I thought you couln't hear it until after 10 weeks but should be able to see it at 7 weeks.  Not sure if that is just because my doc just used the us machine in his rooms and it is not a good as one in the professional rooms where you have your 12 and 20 week scans.

It really depends on the type of equipment they are using.  I heard my lil one's heartbeat at 7.5 weeks so you may be able to hear it.
