I was dilated 3 cm and 50-100% effaced (gradually effaced) for a few weeks. Doctors usually won't "predict" when you'll go into labor because if it doesn't happen, they don't want legal issues to deal with.

After I had my second daughter, my doctor came to visit in the hospital and said, "I knew you were going to have her this weekend, but I didn't say anything!!!"

So baby could be here by your due date!!!

My friend just had twins and she was 2cm dilated for 2 weeks but its nothing to be afraid of it happens to some women... Your doctor may decide to let you continue until your 40 wks and try and stop your labor pains but he/she will keep a closer eye on you to make sure your water don't break in the process but this when you should be more careful....Good luck
