I also had a uncomfortable and painful experience getting my cervix checked for dialation, so uncomfortable to where I was moving and so embarrassed afterward. I was not expecting it to hurt so bad, the bad part about it is,my doctor even made a comment basically asking me what am I gonna do when I give birth like I cant handle the pain . What doctor says that to a first time mommy. I think time for me to find a new obgyn. Reading all the other comments im glad im not the only one. Sad I had to experience that, but glad I know how it feels, what to expect next time and to also consider a new doc. Comfort is key ladies, if ur obgyn is criticising you cut them off time to go... Dont feel bad yu deserve the upmost respect with all u deal with during pregnancy exspecially from ur obgyn... Dont ever feeel embaressed..
I agree Ashelen. When I was 4-5 cm and in labour it didn't hurt at all. The contractions are what hurt then.
Wow so I'm not the only one. No not dilated but been having contractions. So just wanted to check it out at the ER. They gave me a bag of fluid and after sometime i felt better. When those nurses were checking my cervix I was literally screaming and the nurse was like " gal I didn't even touch ur cervix yet! Calm down!! Only I knew wat I was going through. Littlelady I guess we both have to drink lots and lots of water to keep the contractions down. My count was 64 ounces of water and I guess I need more!!! Thanks everyone for your replies. Hopefully as I get closer the pain might get better!
I'm also 27weeks pregnant, had to go to the hospital last night because of contractions and pressure. Now I've always had problems with exams, I'm very tiny down they, tmi I know but they even have to use the smallest speculms for young girls. It was horrible when he checked me, I was shaking so bad. But the cervix is usually so high up, they have really push to reach it. Also when he used the speculm he opened it so wide he actually tore me! I defiantly know how bad the exams can be! Where you dilated, or was it false labor? Next time you have an exam, tell the doctor your last one was really painful for you, sometimes doctors just aren't very gentle, I find if you tell them they will be a little more careful. Good luck! I hope everything is alright!
I agree with the other ladies, it always hurt me. However, once I was over 3cm dilated with my son (I stayed 3-5cm dilated for about 2wks before giving birth) it didn't hurt at all...so I think that the higher, thicker, and more closed your cervix is, the more it hurts....hopefully it will get better as you get farther along :-).
i have always had pain when they are checking. its cause they are sticking their finger or fingers into your cervix so it is streching it.
I've always had pain when they would check me. For me it was because my cervix was up and back really far so they had to reach half their hand up to feel for anything. (my first dilation check was at 28 weeks)
