Would I lose the baby?

I'm no longer on pills since April. Had a period in late May and none since then. I've always had irregular periods, but this time it's been 52 days with no menstruation. I'm having the menstrual cramps for a week now, and no bleeding. I had a visit to my gynecologist 2 months ago. Test results were fine. I ovulate and have no PCOS. We're planning to have a baby, but not knowing when I can possibly conceive kills me. What are my chances if we start trying to conceive anyway before the menstruation? And if pregnancy happens, am I likely to miscarry the baby? BTW, I'm 32.

Last year I went off BCP's in April(09) and my periods were very irregular...I had mid month bleeding...shorter and longer periods, etc.  Then from July to August I went 64 days with no period at all.  I started August 31st and my periods were normal after that. Even though you have been off of BCP's for a few months, your body is still adjusting to not having those added levels of hormones from the BCP's.

I started charting my BBT during the time that I didn't have a period.  This, along with watching for signs of ovulation (ovulation pain, cervical mucus, etc) is the most accurate way of knowing if and when you ovulate.  If you aren't familiar with BBT charting just type it into your search bar and you will find some very good websites that explain it in detail.  Once you pin point ovulation you will be able to optimize your chances of conceiving by concentrating on having intercourse during your fertile days.

It won't hurt to start TTC now even though you have not had your period, there is a chance you can catch ovulation before your next menstrual bleeding occurs since ovulation takes place approximately 10-14 days prior to actual bleeding.  No one can tell you your chances if you start now becuase no one can know precisely when you will ovulate.

Since your doctor has already run tests and they were all fine then I see no reason why your risk of miscarriage would be any higher than that of the average woman.

If you go more than 90 days without a period you shoudl speak with your doctor about the possibility of medication that will induce your period and possibly get your cycle back on track.

Keep in mind that the average healthy couple who are ttc has a 25% chance of conceiving on any given month provided they have intercourse at the optimum time around ovulation.

BTW, after going the 64 days without a period and my cycle finally evening out...I got pregnant in December and am now 33 weeks.  I am 32 also.

If you feel that you ovulated around the 16th/17th, take an HPT about 2 weeks later. If that is negative, you could wait one more week and retest.

Hi again,

So I had my period on August 1, finally. Tracking changes in my cervical mucus, I took an ovulation test on August 16 and 17. Both were positive. Though I may pay too much attention on my body as we TTC, I have menstrual-type cramps, abdominal pressure and some lower back pain now, and feel a little fatigue. No swollen or sore breasts. Since my periods have always been irregular, I don't know when to take a pregnancy test. I consider taking the test in a week, but I'm not sure. Would you suggest a blood test instead of a urine test, and when?
Thanks again. Your input is very helpful.

I too had period like cramping during the time I didn't have a period, turns out it was most likely my body TRYING to ovulate but for whatever reason it didn't.

Did you take any pregnancy tests lately?  If not I would take one just because you have not had a period in awhile.  If it is negative I would call your MD office and let them know that it's been that long since you had your period.  I know coming off the pill can mess your cycles up but they should be regulated by now.  I had period like cramping when I found out I was pregnant.  I thought for sure my period was coming but it turns out it was just my little baby implanting itself into my uterus.  Good luck.

I doubt that your chances of miscarrying would be increased.  Trying with out knowing even when you might ovulate can be hard, but you can always try getting an ovulation kit to help pinpoint when you'll ovulate.

Have you told your dr how long it's been since you've had your period?  Typically if it's been 3-6 months sometimes they can give you one pill to jumpstart your period.  A friend of mine went off some form of an IUD and at 3 months her dr was going to give her a pill to take to jump start her period.  If you make it to 3 months with still no sign of your period and a negative pregnancy test you might want to let your dr know.

Good luck!
