I had 2 babies...Gained around 35lbs with both...my first was a week late...she was 7lbs 9 oz...my second was a few days late and she was 9lbs 5oz...I dont think it matters...the sonogram techs told me over 8 the first time and 8 1/2 the second time..they were close but not 100%....
my sil was told she was having a 5lber and had a 9lber and had to have an emergany section
Yea that was another thing...my best friend is an U/S tech and she said when they estimate their weight, it can be up to 2 pounds off either way. So if they guess he's 7 pounds now, that could mean he's only 5 or as big as 9! I'm like OMG how can they give you an estimate and possibly be that far off? So I guess I really won't know how big he's going to be until he's here! I was just worried that all my weight was going to him..but thanks so much for everyones responses and support!
i am 31 weeks and have only gaine 10lbs so far. I am also in the hosptial and seen by many Dr's and they are not at all concerned. i was 155 to start and have been on bedrest for the last 5 weeks and they all think i'm doing great
I gained 80lbs with my first pregnancy and ended up having a 6lb baby.....
That said, What to Expect While you're Expecting says that average weight gain is anywhere between 25-40 lbs depending on your pre- pregnancy weight. However, every woman is different and as long as you have eaten heathily and your doctor isn't worried then you shouldn't be so worried about your weight gain.
The book aslo goes on to state that your weight gain has very little to do with the birth weight of your baby. I am 32 weeks pregnant and have gained 25lbs so far.... my doctor has told me that is perfect as I excersise daily and eat healthy. This is such a subjective thing....
With my son I gained almost 65lbs and he was 8lbs 14oz. But big babies run in my family and my hubbys family. This time (I am only 18w3d) I have gained 6.5lbs so far, so I don't assmue I'll gain nearly as much with this one, but my dr is guessing this one will weigh roughly the same as my son.
It varies with every person. Also, I am 4foot11 and I was 110lbs pre pregnancy with my son, and I delivered naturally. So I have plenty of hope for you.
Good luck!!
(PS: My sons weight was estimated 1 week prior to delivery and the estimate was 7lbs. So I wouldn't really go by the estimate! lol )
I think it's totally normal that you've gained what you have based on your size and I don't think it necessarily means a big baby. I gained a total of 38 pounds by the time I reached 41 weeks- which is not a whole lot, and I started out at 150lbs - and my baby was 11 pounds 1 oz!! So... you never know. Within 2 weeks all the weight was gone, and within 2 months I was 15 pounds lighter than when I started. The weight was pretty much all water.... and breastfeeding helps the weight literally melt off!!
I think I remember way back when you were posting about how to tell your DH that you were pregnant....... Now you're almost there! :) Best wishes to you....you're soooo close!
You are very small to begin with so they want you to gain more, I am told to gain more as well...although I am very tall.
I have 4 kids:
Gain: 28lb
Baby: 7lb 9oz
Gain: 23lb
Baby: 6lb 13oz
Gain: 38lb
Baby: 7lb 5oz
Gain: 19lb
Baby: 6lb 9oz
Good luck, your doing great!
Oh thanks ladies! I know everyone is different, but that does make me feel a lot better! I am all belly which made me think all my weight gain was going straight to him and he was going to be huge! Granted he could still be a big baby, it eases my mind a bit knowing my weight gain doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be big.
Thanks so much for all your input!
Nope!!!
I gained 50 lbs with my first pregnancy and my baby was 7lbs 5oz.
I gained 25 lbs with my second baby and she was 8 lbs 8oz.
So you can see, my weight gain was incredibly high but my baby girl was average. And when my weight gain was less, my 2nd baby girl was huge!!!
My SIL put on 45lbs with her first (she's not very big) and her baby was healthy and long, but under 6lbs.
She put on less weight the second time and had a 8lb baby.
No! With my 1st I put on 42lbs and Ethan was only 5lbs13oz!! With Hunter I gained 18lbs and he was 6lbs10oz! You are doing great on your weight, They say that if you are below weight you should gain alittle more.....You are almost done!!! Have a great L&D!!

I found this on a website.....
Uterus 2.39 lbs.
Breasts 1.0
Blood 3.09
Water 4.15
Fat 8.27
Maternal: 18.89
Fetus 7.5 lbs.
Placenta 1.6
Amniotic Fluid 1.97
Total: 29.96 lbs
Baby Center: You should gain roughly 25-35 lbs during your pregnancy. Over the last 2 trimesters, you should gain about 4 lbs every 4 weeks. If you gained the average of the range above, this is where the weight would go (totals are rounded)
Okay.....Me talking now and not baby center :)
Now, of course this will vary from person to person. Sometimes more and sometimes less.
With my last baby, I felt huge and I don't remember exactly how much weight I gained. Probably around 30+ lbs or so. I was so scared she was going to be huge. She ended up being 6lb 12oz. That was the first of 5 babies that was under 7 lbs.
So, don't worry. You are fine.
