about 7 months and dont care for a bottle?

Okay so, Cole does not seem interested in his bottles anymore!!  When it comes to spoon feeding, when he sees the spoon he kicks and gets all excited. then after he eats his solids i give him a bottle, its been like this for a month, and starting on Tuesday, he doesnt want the bottle, he eats it, but it takes him an hour! noit exxagerating, it really takes him an hour to eat it, cause he throws it every 20 seconds and i have to give it back to him, or hes just playing with it, or laughing while chewing on the nipple.. hes only almost 7 months old so I cant take the bottle from him, what else do i do?

LOL@ tangent about poop :-). With Kahlan it was half effort and half luck...she got fairly constipated when she was on rice cereal so we used to give her a lot of sips of water after she was 10 months....and every time we gave her a sippy cup from about 10 months -15 months we would give water first, next sippy cup would be Motts for Tots (with extra vitamins) and then water, etc back and forth...until finally around 18 months she just decided I guess the juice was too sweet because now she always asks for water. I gave her apple juice the other day and she wasn't really interested.

It's so bad of me but I wanted to give her a treat so I got some orange Fanta (no caffeine) and put it in a sippy cup (about an inch of it) with a spoonful of ice cream to make her a little dreamsicle dessert treat...and she took it, took a few sips, handed it back and goes "water, please?" LOL

I think drink preference is mostly personality, but if you alternate between water and a regular juice cup eventually they're going to get thirsty enough between juice cups to try the water...and you could always try flavored water! I think my daughter likes it because when she has a snack the water doesn't mix flavors with the food..I know that sounds weird but that's how her dad is so I think that's why she prefers water too..and my child is ALWAYS eating. she takes after her daddy so she's as skinny as a stick even though she never stops eating...so I'm kinda glad she takes water to counteract all the calories she gets elsewhere even though I try to give her healthy food lol.

I wish I could get my daughter to drink more water, all she wants is juice, or milk. She cant drink alot of milk because it constipates her...also she doesnt like to pooh, so when she does her pooh its HUGE i mean like a grown adults fist and very long, stops tolite up.....ok  back to topic...how can i get her to drink more water???? shes 3 1/2 btw.

Kahlan loves her water too...we actually can't even get her to drink milk. I've tried vanilla milk, strawberry milk, plain milk (obviously), chocolate milk (once in a blue moon)....but her drink of choice is 9 times out of 10...water.

hiltonvslohan - thanks for the explanation :)

ammanda - My 4 year old STILL doesn't drink juice!  He's had a sip here and there, but doesn't like the sweetness of it.  Only drinks milk or water :)  Baby Gil loves his water, too :)

Yea i agree with the whole, Formula for a bottle only, and water and juice for a sippy cup, and later on regular milk for the sippy...  but idk i have him on a great schedule now, he eats every 3 hours.  I know it wont last forever. but im scared for it to change,  i dont wanna screw anything up or have to get used to anything else..

But DB did go behind my back and try putting his formula in a sippy cup and he still didnt want it, he got a nasty look on his face when the formula came out, but wouldnt let go of the cup, like it was gonna magically turn into water.. i think he really likes water..  good! cause hes not getting juice for awhile... lol

He absolutely loves his solids though, I cant wait till he turns one and I dont have to worry about the formula anymore!

What's WIC?  Sorry, "ignorant" Canadian, here ;)

I've heard of several babies never wanting a bottle and going right from breast to sippy cup.....I personally don't think it matters whether you put formula in a bottle or a cup - it's what your child is ingesting and getting nutrition-wise that's important!  IMO...

If Gil hadn't started taking a sippy cup, I'd still be exclusively BFing which isn't going to work when I return to work, and that's coming fast!! :(

You make a really good point Amanda something I didn't think about. Thinking back, I remember that phase with Kahlan too. And I also remember the advice not to give formula in anything but a bottle, and that's what we did. I don't know why I didn't remember that, but you're right.

Matthew went through this, i honestly think its just a phase. (sorry if im repeating things i didnt read all the responses). When Matthew turned 6 months he was loving his solid foods (still is) but not so much his bottle....he just didnt want to drink it and would play with it just like you said. I just started feeding on demand...i didnt force it on him. If he didnt want a bottle every 4 hours anymore so what...i fed him when HE wanted one. It's a very busy time for our boys...they want to explore...they could care less about their bottles. Matthew eats 4 ounces about every 5-6 hours and 1-2 six ounce bottles at night. We have been exploring with soft finger foods lately (he also has teeth tho) so he is getting all sorts of new nutrition and i make sure to mix his cereals with 2-4 ounces of formula. Now that Matthew is seven months he's starting (not all the way) to get back on his bottle schedule...so its taking a little longer than a month. I just gave him a sippy cup for the first time today ....but i read some people saying to give him formula from a sippy but i honestly dont think it has anything to do with the bottle....i dont think he's gonna sit still long enough to drink 6 oz outta a sippy cup either. I also read in phamlets from the WIC office that u arent supposed to put formula in a sippy cup. Formula is for a bottle and juice and water (and later REAL milk) is for a sippy cup...just like u shouldnt put juice or water in a bottle. Just sayin what i read...i know everyone does different things with their kids.

But honestly...i really think its a "busy bee" phase....it went the EXACT same way with Matthew and he is completely fine. Just feed him when he's hungry...not when u think he should be hungry...if he's hungry enough he will sit still and eat that thing! lol :)

I agree that it's okay to feed him from a cup, but he still needs to be getting nearly 30 oz a formula somewhere throughout the day so as long as he's managing that...it doesn't really matter HOW he gets it :)

Is Cole teething?  If this bottle rejection has just started recently, that could explain it...and maybe he'll go back to drinking just fine out of his bottles when the discomfort subsides.

Gil started rejecting bottles when he was 9 weeks old....and NEVER took one again!  He went right to a sippy cup....after we tried so many different types of bottles, nipples...We even tried the NUK ones that have the spouts that are flexible like nipples and he didn't like them at all.  The only cup he's accepted since is the Playtex sippy cups with the two handles.  He drinks from them like a champ now!!

It's definitely not too early to switch him to a cup. Good luck :))

not all babies take bottles! In Russia they use china tea cups as well as China. and other countries as well. He may be too full to drink so much after he eats too. If he takes a cup that is great! They do make soft sippy tops for ALL bottles types as well you may want to try. They are cheaper then getting a whole cup. Thing is that they are easier to unscrew once he gets big enough as they are harder then the nipple itself.

I nursed all mine but if you can get him to take a sippy then that is great, my second would not even drink a half a cup a tthe age of two in a whooel day!! She would just not do it. I was tandem nursing my third at the same time and pregnant with #4. I thought she would never stop nursing but then just stopped two weeks after she turned 2 in one day. I could not imagine if she had taken bottles and not stopped! yikes

Same thing goes thoughwith sippy cups, never given in bed and taken away when done right away. If he can learn to drink it down then be done that is how to do it.

you can try a faster flow nipple. They often do this when they get too busy for a slow nipple. Or, you could see how much formula he'll take from a sippy cup. If he really doesn't want the bottle but wants the sippy, you may need to try a couple different brands to see which ones he can drink from. Try the sippy yourself- some of them are very hard to s.uck on and get anything out.
Formula twice a day isn't quite enough though. As long as he gets 24-30 ounces of formula (you can count the formula you mix in to foods) it doesn't matter how he gets it.

I got some I think they were made by NUK. They held at least six ounces...I think I found them at Walmart...Try putting the formula in the cup instead of water and see what he does.

I have the beginner sippy cup, it saids for 6 months and up, he ha water in it right now, I give it to him after he eats his veggies just to get a couple sips, and i literally have to rip it out of his hands, he loves it! I dont know if he likes the cup or the water????  and I dont think that would fit 6 oz of formula in it lol

You most certainly can switch him from a bottle! Try using a soft nipple sippy cup and see what he does, he might like it more. I started giving Elijah a sippy around the same age, but he would still take the bottle too. I had him off it by 11 months, and he was on a sippy all the time, but I see nothing wrong with trying a sippy if he'll take it. To my knowledge there's no age that they have to stay on a bottle.
