about to be in tears

My boyfriend and I are looking for an apartment. We can afford one money isn't an issue but no one will rent to us because we're first time renters and have no credit. Isn't no credit better than bad credit? How are we ever supposed to get are own place? I never thought renting would be such an issue! No one else seems to have issues! What are we doing wrong.... We have to find somewhere by July or I guess beginning of August.. but the way things are going we won't even find somewhere by then... Any one else have this issue?? What did you do? I know its probably different in every state

Oh, I misunderstood that part. Yeah the ladies have the right idea, say you rented off your parents or if you have a cousin that has a different last name use them as a previous landlord.  If they want some sort of proof other then a phone call you guys could always mock up a rental agreement with last years dates.

Kate, that's crazy! But they turn us down before they even do a credit check or anything because they dont want to deal with first time renters.. I know we just have to keep looking :/ thanks for the support :)

My only suggestion is that you get a credit report  done for yourself to see. I thought the reason I was getting turned down at apartments was because I had no credit, so I went to the bank to figure out how to build my credit and when they did the check, it turns out someone stole my identity and I didn't have no credit, I have really REALLY bad credit thanks to the arsehole that did it. They screwed me over enough that the bank couldn't even give me a secured credit card (where you give them 500$ before they even give you the card) and now I have to jump through hoops to get this cleared up. (we just figured this all out in the past three weeks) but lucky enough we found a place that didn't even care about credit checks as long as we could prove we are steadily employed and in good standing with our bosses (job security) Keep trying hun, you'll find something eventually!

I was fortunate, in that my first rental was from a family friend...its so tough though i know, its like they want to punish you for staying out of debt...Good luck in getting established. I hope it all works out.

Here is the trick say you were renting from one of your parents and Yall were paying them rent. The apartment complex will then just call to verify. I use to work at an apartment complex.

When you turn in an application ask about it or just go back to a place u have applied at. Explain ur situation and if it is possible to get a cosigner because u are very interested in their place. Someone is bound to let u in. Good luck!

You need to go to an equal opportunity housing development. You will probably have to pay a little extra for the deposit but it wil be your first place and will be the first step in getting credit.

I had the same problem when I was trying to get my first place. I ended having my mom co-sign with me in order to get someone to rent to me.

When we got out first apt no one wanted to give it to us because we were 18-19 at the time and without credit. One company let us get a cosigner and that's how we got approved. Do you have a family member with good credit that can help u guys out? They dnt have to pay anything, but if u guys dnt pay rent their credit score will also be affected.
