It sounds like acid reflux. It's important not to ignore severe symptoms as they can indicate bleeding or ulcers in the stomach/esophagus from erosive GERD. I would definitely bring it up at your next doc appointment or make on sooner if it's really interfering with you daily activities. Heartburn is expected to a certain degree as the pregnancy hormones relax muscles including the sphincter between the stomach and esophagus. The sphincter acts to keep acid from flowing up back into the esophagus. But when you are getting no relief OTC or prescription meds may be warranted. I understand the pain it can cause, I've been dealing with it since a child and had an especially painful relapse 3 months ago due to strep throat and then pregnancy hormones kickstarting it again. My advice would be to at least speak to your doctor regarding this before it gets any worse.
I vomit cuz of the pain is so bad
Also to add, with the pills, each is a different active ingredient. I started with Zantac, went to Prilosec, and finally ended up with Prevacid. I gave Prevacid a good 3 weeks to kick in so I didnt have to go to a GI doc and the symptoms finally started to subside enough that they werent interfering with my life. They all treat the same disorder, but do so differently so it may be a matter of finding which one works well with your body.
If it is to the point of vomiting I would assume its more likely to be acid reflux than just regular heartburn. Most PPIs are safe for pregnancy (Zantac, Prevacid, Prilosec) but be sure to check with your doc to check first. If it is that severe home remedies arent going to do much, but keep in mind with these meds it takes around 1-2 weeks for symptoms to subside, its not an immediate cure. So if you've tried them before try to hold out for 2 weeks and there should be a substantial improvement. For now, dont eat or drink 2-3 hours before bedtime, sleep propped up as much as you can or get bed risers to prop up your bed, eat 5-6 small meals rather than 3 large, avoid drinking with your meal, avoid ALL caffeine even if you just cut down (chocolate can trigger it too), avoid all acidic foods and drinks (orange juice, apple juice, tomatoes, pineapples, etc.), for me milk actually makes it worse, tums may or may not work (for me they made it worse), eat SLOWLY and drag out your meal as long as you can and dont overstuff yourself.
Since it mainly bothers you at night propping yourself up and avoiding any food/water 3 hrs before bed should help. I know how acid reflux can interfere with a good night's sleep, so its important to talk to your doc to find out how to get it under control to be sure you are getting the rest you need and your baby needs to be healthy :)
Thank you receive sadly I've tried milk, tums and antacid pills and nothing works, this is my second child and the acid is so much worse this time....hoping that whole milk may work, usually I drink 2%
many doctors will approve Zantac or Pepcid AC...so give your doctor a call in the morning, no need to keep suffering...they should give you an idea of what you can use and you should be able to just swing by a pharmacy to pick it up and hopefully get some relief tomorrow.
I find the thicker the milk the better 1% works but whole milk is the best :)
Yes milk I get the same thing anything I have gives me heartburn so bad I throw up. I'm a religious milk drinker now n rarely get heartburn. But anything I drink other then milk gives me heartburn :(
I drank a lot of milk with my second pregnancy because I had terrible heartburn!!! Maybe that would give you some relief??
I've tried all of those things and water makes it worse thank you though
Try drinking plenty of water and maybe just eating lighter meals just more frequently and not so close to bedtime. You can always prop yourself up a bit more and tums are always good. Limit the foods that make it worse.
