I started my son on rice cereal at 3 months and now that hes 4 months hes started eating stage 1 baby food. He has a cereal bottle in the morning...i mix it with his formula instead of giving him 8oz to fill his tummy, i give him a 6oz bottle with cereal in it, sometimes he doesnt even finish the bottle. He loves it! Then close to dinner time he has baby food and a regular 6oz bottle without cereal in it. Of course he has several other bottles throughout the day. But i only give him cereal once, maybe twice a day...i dont want to make him too fat lol hes 4 months and already weighs 22lbs!

i know you are in the UK too, they changed weaning age from 4 months to 6 months, and now its back to 4 months again. i began little feeds at about 3 and a half months because the bottles were not feeding cleo. iv been advised against rusks but i tried the short jars of cow & gate baby rice as it is plain and not too heavy, its all very messy and babies dont really know how to eat from a spoon but patience is good as it will take a while. try a few tea spoon scoops after a bottle feed

Ps, my sons whom I weaned at 3 months, I did so after speaking to my health visitor. 4 months is usually when babies can start being weaned though.

Hi, when my 3 were little, my dd i started weaning at 4 months, my 2 ds's at  3 months as they were both hungry babies and all the signs were there they were ready...watching me or my husband eat and opening their mouth as the fork went in.
I started with baby rice, then I would puree a different veg each day for them, literally enough for 4 or 5 mouthfuls. Carrot, pea, broccoli. As they got a little older I would pre make and freeze pureed food for them and freeze it in ice cube trays, I would start off with 1 ice cube and gradually work up ending up with 3 or 4 by the time they were 11 months to a year old. By the time they hit 10 months I would give them a little yoghurt afterwards too, petit filous or something like that.
Once they had several teeth, I would make the meals up with a little meat and some potato in too. My kids loved beef/potato and veg, pork/potato and veg, sausage, mash and beans. I also used to cook a piece of cod in some milk in a pan, then flake it and mix with mash and veg too. None of my kids were keen on chicken though until they turned a year, think it's texture was too grainy for their palate.
Hope some of this helps! :D
