allergic to milk and soy???

Anyone ever hear of babies being allergic to milk products and soy?? My poor DD has had diarrha (sp?) since birth. I brought her in at one week old because her butt was so raw (no rash) that it was bleeding from me changing so many poopy diapers. They had me switch her formula from reg similac to the sensitive stuff. She got better for about a week. Then she started gettng diarrha again. I took her back in at 3 weeks old to a new doctor (insurance change) and he checked her out and said she was fine. I also told him she gets real fussy while eating and acualy stop sucking and starts crying. He told me that was normal. Now I have 3 other children and they have NEVER done that. He assured me it was normal, whatever, he said as she gets older and bigger it would stop. He weight gain was good so again he saw no problem. I went home hoping she would slow down with the poopy diapers. It didnt. So I finally switched her to soy. She got better again just like she did with the other formula changes. About a week or so later diarrha was back!! I brought her to her 2 month check up (same stupid doctor) and told him that I was fed up! There was something wrong and I wanted to know what. He told me to change her formula agin. He gave me some samples of a similac formula that is basicly soy and milk free. Alumintum (sp?) Well we have gone through 4 sample size cans and she is still having diarrha after every feeding. It soaks throught the diaper like pee would and then pools in there leaking out. Its not normal. Im so sick of her doctor that I went around him and scheduled an appointment with an allergist for tomrrow. On top of that she has been drooling like crazy the past few days and is super fussy today. My 2 older boys started teething by her age, so I hope not, ugh!
Anyone have a baby or have heard of a baby allergic to both milk and soy?? DH's side of the family is allergic to EVERYTHING, so this doesnt really surprise me. Out of 4 kids we finally have a problem with one having some kind of allergy:-( The thing I dont get is this new formula that doesnt have milk or soy prducts is still making her sick! I have also asked her peds about maybe a stomach bug and he said no. Babies her age dont tend to get those, but he keeps warning me to have everyone get their flu shot so that Taylor isnt exposed to the flu! Does that make any sence??? Not to me! Im so afraid that its nothing to do with the formula but a problem with her stomach or bowels. Im living my pregnancy all over again!!! Anyone have any insight??

absolutely...it actually has a name too...milk soy protein intolerance!  babies with this need a hypo-allergenic formula such as nutramigen or alimentum...or an rx formula...good luck!

Oh poor baby! Just recently went through the same thing with my son, he is 7 months..... He is alergic to milk and to soy - they put him on Alimentum and he seems to be a much happier baby!

They found out he was alergic because of constant fussines and Diahrea (sp?), the dr tested his stool and they found blood in it!

Hope all goes well with your little one! Good luck

My daughter was going through the same thing, and her stool had blood in it. So her pediatrician said that she was allergic to the milk that has the milk protein in it.  She told me to switch her formula to alimentum or Nutramigen, I tried Alimentum but she would cry more after each feeding like if she was in pain.  Then I tried Nutramigen and she stopped.  Until this day she is doing regular poopy and she is happy after evry feeding.  you might want to give Nutramigen a try.  And the breastmilk might have those milk protein depending on what you eat.  So I stopped bf completely, because of that and because I was pregnant again, lol.  Good luck, let me know how it goes!

My one year old nephew had a rough go in the beginning and his parents found out (after trying many different formulas) that he is allergic to both milk and soy milk.  His doctor put him on this special milk recipie.  It's a can of condensed milk, water, a teaspoon of sugar and liquid vitamins made by Enfamil.  It smells HORRIBLE but it is the only thing that works.  He's 15 months old now and can drink Lactaid Milk now.

I was allergic to breast milk and all different types of forumula.  The ONLY thing I could have was Nutramigen.  Which in 70's was outrageously expensive...fortunately it's not so much anymore.  Between me and my brother as infants/young kids there wasn't much that COULD be eaten in our house.  Neither of us have any food allergies anymore that we know of....but I guess becuase I wasn't able to expand my taste buds I'm a VERY picky eater now.

Wow... time to go see a specialist or naturopath that deals with infant allergies and gastrointestinal issues.

I'm a chef that specializes in allergies.. and trust me, many that are allergic to milk are allergic to soy as well.. they are both common allergies and do seem to run together (almost as much as dairy and wheat allergies run together).  Maybe check to be sure that the new formulas do not contain gluten products of any kind (anything derived from wheat for sure, but a host of other grains can cause the same severe reaction).  Since I am lactose intolerant, what you describe as her reaction during feeding reminds me of myself when I accidentally eat/drink something with dairy in it!  You stop, feeling nauseous and "not right" .. then the real pain starts.

Please find a heath care professional that listens, cares, and will help.

Oh Tabby, I'm sorry to hear that about Miss Taylor. =/ I'm sad! I hope they find something of what it could be so you and her can be back to normal and not stress so much. I have bugga on SOY from good start, and so far its okay, we did have her on soy on similac and she was okay with that as well. But with the regular formula with milk protein in it, she would spit that up...So Idk if it could be different brands as well. Its sooo funny how a dr. can seem to tell you how your OWN child is doing when they aren't the one changing their diapers and seeing how they are at home.

Hmm I have always wondered how babies were allergic to breast milk. How did they feed their babies back in the day when formula was even invented yet? Huh, IDK. Thank you for checking with your mom. Any insight would be great. I feel so bad for my little Taytay:-(
