another RX type question

As I stated earlier, I am hesitant about taking things  (tylenol & such)

Anyway.... On Tuesday, My doctor perscribed a med for nausea & sickness.  (I am almost 9 wks preg now)
Today I don't feel very bad (with the exception of a few minutes ago.  ugh.  I didn't see that comming),so I definately wont take it today.  Most days I have been feeling really nauseated around noon and lasting until I go to bed at night.  Gagging a few times every hour or so, with & without vomiting.

The Rx perscribed is called ONDANSETRON.  It says it is a generic most commonly used on patients in chemo.

does anyone have any info on this drug?  Any history with it?  How did you feel?  Anyone found any research with it during pregnancy?  I picked it up, cause it was only $0.50.  I'm not sure if I should take it...  but I do vomit after at least 2 meals a day.  suggestions???

My OB prescribed me Zofran. And he is so cautious, he didn't even let me take benedryl in the first trimester. DH is a pharmacist and he allowed me to take the Zofran. Hubby is so cautious when I'm pregnant, he wouldn't let me take Halls because of the menthol. So, as far as meds go, it's pretty safe.
I found the Zofran did leave me still nauseous, but also did stop the vomiting. Like you, I only took it when I felt ill.

I think it's one of the newer ones. I'm not too sure on an actual time line. (I don't even remember where I read it, I just know I did someplace) There aren't any effects that I've read about though. Some women with HG have Zofran pumps they use and their babies come out fine. Zofran is also rated safer than Phenergan (It has a class C rating) and my daughter came out perfect even with how much I had to take.

Don't let it get too bad though. No need to feel sick if you have the capabilities to feel better. (At least this is how I always saw it, lol)

oh, And does anyone know how long this has been perscribed to pregnant women?
I'm looking it up for any effects on children later in life, but so far haven't seen a time frame that it has been perscribed.

Thank you Clysta!  I had a feeling you would answer me.  I may try to tough it out some more & see if I get worse.  My husband is afraid I'm not getting enough nutrition.  I'm sure some of it is sticking!

The medicine is Zofran. It's one of the most prescribed medicines for nausea in pregnancy other than Phenergan. I've used it, but found it did nothing for me. I did live on Phenergan though for 6-7 months of my pregnancy, taking it once or twice a day. Zofran itself is given a Class rating of a B, and since this is the generic, it sound be the same. It's perfectly safe to take. Many women swear by it and how much it helped them. I just didn't notice anything personally. If you need it, use it.
