I was talking about my dad!! Not my husband! My dads mom was a twin and then 3 other sets along the way, the youngest set is 18. I'm not worried either way, thanks for the info from the ppl that have twins

I had twins. My tests were never "dark" or  anything of the sort.

I didn't show until I was about 3-4 months along and then I just had a pooch. I went up 1 jean size. I didn't really pop until about 6 months, then I looked like a friggin elephant.

I found out at 9 weeks I was having twins via ultra sound. The only reason I even had one done was because I'd fainted and when I fell I landed on my front side. (hit my head, landed on the belly and what not.) I knew I was pregnant and ED doc wanted to make sure the baby was okay. Turns out there were babies and one of the boys was laying on some nerve that cut off blood or something to my brain and caused me to faint. Luckily he moved and never laid there again.

Other than the ultra sound and eventually an enormous belly, I had a completely normal pregnancy. No high numbers, no increased symptoms...nothing.

And twins run rampant on my side of the family. (Not my mothers side, there are no twins, but they do on my dads. In fact...I have twin brothers.) Hubby's side of the family had absolutely no twins till ours came along.

Your fathers side could matter I suppose because he did help make up your genetics. But the partners side has no bearing on whether or not you'll have fraternal twins. His momma can't make you ovulate more than one egg. Lol. ;) although sometimes I might wish it were possible.  Identical twins is basically a genetic flaw that occurs and it has no bearing on whether you have twins either.

An as I said, while using clomid the chances of multiples is under 10%

This is actually an interesting debate.  I have actually read that the fathers side does count because although HE obviously wouldn't be "double ovulating" lol, it would be passed down genetically to the daughters in his family....though I think this would have to be of VERY close relations ie: your paternal grandmother having fraternal twins and I would think the genetics would be quite watered down at that point.  And of course if they were Identical twins this would not play into it, they would have to be fraternal. My paternal grandmother is a twin and my maternal great grandmother is a twin, and no one in our family has had twins.

Clysta is right about the father's side not really mathering if they have twins...My doctor told me this, unless of course your husband is a twin himself, then there is chance! And as for not being able to button your pants at 5 weeks, I was the same way but it was just my retainning water, got better around 6 weeks but is starting again now, can barely take off my wedding rings!

I have a set of boy twins(fraternal). I started showing a lil early around 4 months and the pain on my left side was unbearable due to all the stretching of my ligaments. I found out I was having twins at my first appointment/ultrasound. The ob/gyn came in the room joking...he said "so what are we having? Twins? Triplets?" I laughed as well and said "no, just one." Well lo and behold, we saw two sacs, two fetus', I thought I was gonna pass out from the shock. Everyone had said that I was gonna have a big baby because I was so huge already, but it turns out that I was progressing just fine....for a multiple pregnancy. I had an appointment each week from that day forth because any pregnancy with multiples is considered high risk. I also had to quit my job because I was immediately placed on bedrest. I found out later that twins run on both sides of my family AND the father's family. Lol too bad no one thought to tell me before I got pregnant....but then again, we weren't ttc, we were just careless in not using protection. Good luck to you either way :)

While on clomid you have a less than 10% chance of conceiving twins or multiples. It says this on the drug information packaging that you received. I remember reading this when I took it. if you're freaked out, think about it like this: you have a 92% chance of a singleton pregnancy.

As for the twins in your family, identical doesn't count. Fraternal twins only count on the mothers side.

Also, at five weeks the baby is the size of a period at the end of a sentence, an you uterus is roughly the size of a very small grapefruit. If you have a tummy its bloat or water weight, not baby. Good luck!

i had big tummy. and i actually gained weight so quickly. i was showing already at week 5. when i had my scan by the time i thought i might be pregnant with twins because i was on clomid. my first scan showed only sac and yolk. after that i started loosing weight because of passing all wind and going to wash regularly and controlling my food. when i went for this scan and i only saw one baby measuring 5mm with no heart beat yet. and i asked her and she said either i have started eating too much. and second i am drinking too much water. and third i have alot of wind which makes it feel like bloated one. so may be you might have twins but at this stage wait for your scan. :)

I think all newly pregnant women (me included) can't wait to show - especially because that is what makes it feel real. But your belly is definitely not baby yet unfortunately. Some women don't even show til 20 weeks. Just hang in there it will come!

The father should not have any say. It only pertains to the mother because it's her genetics that cause you to release two eggs at the same time, rather than the usual one. As men do not ovulate or have those organs, they play no matter. Identical twins are luck of the draw and happen every 3 in 1000 pregnancies.

I'm not bloated. I have twins on both sides, I don't want twins per say im happy with one I was just wondering, I realize that the baby is to small to make me have a huge stomach but u also get water weight and I know I have that as my hands have been swollen in the morning to the point they hurt for a lil bit.  Also I've spoke with my doctor and yes on ur father side it does matter!! It's not just my mom.

At 5 weeks you wouldn't have any belly, twins or not. You could be pregnant with triplets and not even have one yet. The babies are far too tiny to cause anything--your stomach is bloating, nothing more. The only twins that have anything to do with genetics are fraternal twins, and these ONLY matter on the mothers side. Your father, cousins, anything have nothing to do with it. Clomid does up your chances, but you've suspected this in the past too---honestly, I wouldn't get your hopes up or even concern yourself with it. Signs and symptoms do not mean multiples, nothing but ultrasound and birth does.

Why do you think you're having twins? Do you just have a gut feeling or are you super sick?

I personally think if you were having twins, your tests would have been darker by now. But I'm not a dr so who knows
