baby girls and getting their ears pierced

Hey, my baby girl will be coming soon :) excited. Ive heard that the doctor doesnt let you pierce their ears until they are about 3 months because they might be alergic to the material, etc. But i come from a hispanic background, which we pierce them within the first week because the skin is still thin and it will hurt less. Being 3 months, their skin is much thicker and they are more aware of it.
What do you ladies think ? Or did, if you have a baby girl ??

I just dont want to wait until 3+months and having it hurt her, probably will hurt me more seeing her cry . Lol.

I went to do it within the first week and ppl looked at me like I was just awful lol. I was unable to find a place that would do it before 3 months so I had to wait.

My daughter was 3 months, and its true, a clean sterile place will need the shot record so they have their hepatitus shot and won't get infected. And she was okay with it

My daughter had them done at a year. Took them out at 3 and told me she did not want them.
So I never put them back.
Wish I would have waited for her to make her own choice.

I know what u mean when your hispanic its tradition, my dr also made me wait until she had her first set of shots done. I think it depends maybe where u live cause in Cali they don't care.

And most places won't do it until they give you the shot record showing they've had their 2 month shots

I don't know if you're debating getting your girls done, but you can do it after their 2 month shots my ped. said. my husband doesn't want to get our daughters done. I did a little research online and decided to wait too for a few reasons, you need to find a place that does it with single use guns, because the guns that are used in places like Claire's (in a mall) don't use single use guns, and they can't be sterilized. I also read if you get them done earlier their ear lobes might not grow at the same rate and they can become lopsided and some even get droopy to where you can pull a stud through the hole (I have a friend that can do this because she got hers done as a baby), and also because your daughter may get used to the earrings and not touch them, but as they start going to day care or school, other kids aren't used to them so they become curious and try to pull on them or grab them (I read that a LOT online!) I figured I'll wait til my daughter is a little older, maybe 5-6-7ish and see if she wants to do it for her birthday or do it for a girls day, go get our nails done and get her ears pierced you know? But coming from someone who had to wait til I was 12 before I was allowed to get my ears pierced, it's MUCH more frightening if you're older, haha. There's pros and cons both ways I guess, but I chose to wait. I also posted asking this question, should I or shouldn't I, and I'll post you the link to it, I got a lot of responses, but in the end we decided not to.

Good luck either way, I wish I wasn't such a worry wort, I love ear piercings! Also my doctor said sterling silver or gold was fine
