It is called an echogenic intracardiac focus (EIF).  They are very common. EIFs are a very, very 'soft marker' for Down syndrome but if it is an isolated finding your risk doesn't change. They do not have any effect on cardiac function. Nothing to worry about but if you need more assurance it is an indication for cell-free fetal DNA blood draw from you. Ask your OB doc. It is just a little calcification on the structure that controls the heart valve in which it is located.

I'm 20 weeks now nd they saw the same "bright spot" on my baby's heart! Nd they made me do a blood test and it turned out to be NOTHING! So don't worry about it!

I had the same thing happened to me and it wasn't a big deal. It was really scary at first but basically it happens to about 7% of women which is a lot according to doctors. If you don't have any other markers when you go to your second check up then its nothing to worry about.
