c-scetion and taking a shower question....

its been 2.5 wks since i had a c-section and i was wondering how long after your c-section can you take an actual shower like where you can actully get alot of water on your incision? for the last couple weeks my doctor told me to just let the water slowly run down my incision but i want to be able to turn around and actully face the water...im scared that if i do let the water hit my incision directly that it will reopen please help girls who have gone through this.

betty12~ as long as it isn't a harsh spray your fine with letting it hit your incision. you'll know when to take it easy because you'll have pain. it's your bodies way of telling you to take it easier. I actually took a bath 1 1/2 weeks after my csection (for a few min.) but I heal quickly. my incision was healed up about 98% 2 weeks after my csection.

My doctor let me take a shower while I was still in the hospital with both of my c sections like the next day.  I didn't have any problems doing it, except for trying to step over the side of the tub.  I would have someone clost by the first time you take a shower though just in case you need help.  Do you have staples?

If the wound is fully closed there should be no problem running water over it.  Just pat it dry completely after.

I had a hip to hip laparotomy a few months ago (appendicitis, at 3 months).... I got to take a shower as soon as I could stand - they had a waterproof dressing on it.  The dressing was removed after 5 days and I was allowed to shower straight away.... just no soaking in bath, or pool for 1 month.

hope this helps

It depends if you have staples or stiches.  I had staples an I was cut from hip to hip... i was pregnant in my tube so it was removed... an I was told to take a shower the day of surgery.  I was told to take a wash rag an wash over it.  It hurt like hell.  It took the nurse an my husband to help me do it.  I would call an ask my dr.
