can heart murmur cause problems in labour

I found out after I had my little girl I have a heart murmur. We didnt no this when I was pregnant before so it was left alone but I've experienced really bad palpitations in this pregnancy it seems to be getting worse. My brother has hypotrophic cardio miopathy (enlargement of the heart wall) meaning he had to have open heart surgery so they are keeping an eye on me incase mine goes the same way but I'm worried having this murmur will, cause problems in labour. What do you guys think.

sounds like it's something you should talk to your doctor about. there is more involved than a simple heart murmur??? good luck!

I'm 22 weeks but I had palpitations on my daughter but they put it down to being pregnant but 2 days before I had my daughter we found out my brother had heart disease and we all got to be tested cz its in the blood. But my palpitations are worse this time round. Its not that I'm worried about them cz I'm used to the palpitations I'm just worried how my heart will cope in labour. Cz its not that small. They didnt want to do a d&c back in December cz they were worried how my heart would handle it.

hi there, i have a MVP and i also had increased palpitations during my first pregnancy with my daughter, however this is a common symptom of a heart murmur and i don't believe it means there is any reason to worry. i'd talk to your doctor if you are worried about it. hope you feel better, soon!

hello...i am a heart patient...ive had heart murmurs on and off my whole life...im 37 now...i found out in '96 bout the hole in my heart along wit the aneurysm....i get heart murmurs here and there....they will most likely just keep monitoring u thru out ur pregnancy and during labor...i had all 3 of my daughters naturally and did not have a problem...everyone is different...and im a firm believer that if u think bout something too much it could make things seems worse than they r...if i dont think bout my heart problems then i dont freak out everytime it skips a beat...if u stress out bout it and worry bout it...it will cause u to go crazy...i kno...thats what i did when i first found out bout my heart disease...im sure u will be ok..but im no dr...lol...just stay calm...and follow drs orders...get plenty of rest...hope this helps in some way....take care and congrats...

yes! it actually can....BUT...not in the way you might think?

Depending on the severity of your condition and what your cardiologist thinks, you may not be able to get an epidural.

I have chronic tachycardia (fast heartbeat) and even I had to get a cardiologist consult to be cleared for an epidural, because apparently it can interfere with the heart and if you have certain conditions can be dangerous.

However, because they know about it, they'll keep an eye on it and you should get a consult before you deliver and they'll let you know if it will affect you or not - it may not, if it's small enough.

Your palpitations increasing is fairly normal, so as long as your doctor and cardiologist know about the increased palps you should be fine.

How far along are you?
