cigarettes

Just wondering if any other mamas out there that quit smoking are going through the most extreme symptoms? I read that nicotine withdrawal symptoms are almost identical to pregnancy symptoms (mood swings, constipation, nausea). I'm jonesing SO HARD for a smoke (I smoked for 10 years). But I know it's NOT okay since I'm 7 weeks and the umbilical cord has formed. I try to remind myself of what I'm doing this for but it doesn't make it any easier. Any words of advice? Also, what are your thoughts on smoking again after the baby is born and after breastfeeding?

You guys are in total beast mode! So inspiring! I always use to say that I could quit when I wanted, and that I'd quit when I'm pregnant. But when that actually happened I was like OH LORD GIVE ME STRENGTH. A lot of my friends said they were lucky and started getting sick from smoking and that's how they figured out they were pregnant. My sixth sense caught my pregnancy early so I felt really bad that at 4 weeks I knew I was pregnant, but I still kept smoking. It wasn't until last week Wednesday I took my last drag. I'm still on the fence about smoking after all of this because 9 months (give or take) is a long time to be a non smoker. But I agree with most of you ladies, the second I'm OK to walk around after I give birth, I'm walking right outside to smoke a cigarette. Maybe it'll taste horrible to us and we'll never want to do it again? Who knows, but thank you everyone!

I smoked for 2 years, so im sure it was a lot easier for me to quit.  If you can stop smoking for 9months +  then id say dont pick the habit up again.  You should want to be healthy to be around with you kid as long as possible :)

I smoked for 10 years too. once again out of many attempts i quit. i quit at 7w im now 34w. one time i broke down in tears to my partner saying i cant do it i need a smoke now ( i was 20w). he never seen me so desperate. lol . but he was so supportive he drove me to the mall and brought a E-cigrette from the chemist. E-cig are bad but not as bad as tobacco. I only puff away at the e-cig when i was in desperation cos i knew it wasnt good theres anti freeze in it. I no longer use it now. but i can say the e-cig help alot. I choose to remain smoke free, for my children. I am totally over the love hate relationship with cigarettes lol

I smoked for 10 years myself, and oddly enough, i found out i was pregnant when the smell or even the thought of cigarettes made me nauseous. This went on until the end of my 2nd trimester. Every since then i've craved a cigarette stronger than anything else my whole pregnancy. Luckily my due date is next week, and im planning to smoke one immediately after delivery lol.

I smoked for about 4 years. The worst i got was a half a pack a day. Sometimes id smoke a whole one if i was drunk.
I always told myself if i found out i was pregnant that i would quit smoking.
Well the time finally came! Lol
And i have to admit i was kind of sad.
The next morning i was going to smoke my last cig and i couldnt. I thought about the life in me that had to smoke aswell. And then i thought about my brother who has asthma because my mom smoked while pregnant.
& i thought about how if my baby knew how harmful cigarettes were and for me to place the gamble on her life like that, i didnt want to tell her her respiratory problems were because i couldnt quit. Because its only fair that she know...
I would much rather tell her, i love smoking cigarettes. I quit because i loved you more.
Now the first month was hell, i wont sugar coat it. They say that 3 weeks smoke free and cravings lower.
I also quit coffee the same time. Lol
I literally felt like i was going insane.
And i was mad and jealous that my fiance smoked
But i got over it eventually, now im 34 weeks. And im not going to lie...the first thing imma do is smoke after i get home from the hospital.
Good luck! You can do it, just keep reminding yourself what a great thing your doing. It alsohelps if you have someone else supporting you and reminding you!

I quit when I found out I was pregnant. I really want a cig every time I see someone in a car or well my dad is a smoker so I'm always around him. It is hard you just have to keep reminding yourself its for your babies sake. :) I only smoked for 3 years before I got pregnant though....
