confusing ER visit :(

Ok so Im super worried :( woke up at 2 am this morning with pretty bad lower back pain and mild abdominal cramps. My first thought was another miscarriage is on its way. I slept on and off untill 6 am and couldnt sleep anymore. I stayed up in pain untill 9 am, when my ob office opened. I called the nurses line only to find out that my doc was out untill monday morning and was told to go to the er. At the er they did a pelvic exam and a ultrasound. My cervix was closed and I had no bleeding or spotting. I was confused when I seen the ultrasound. The tech said that he measured me at 9 weeks 1 day. According to my doc and my last ultra sound on 8/22/11, I should now be 8 wks 2 days. Also at the er they were able to see the baby with the regular tummy ultrasound , not the vaginal one. The heart beat is now 169 , went up from 137 on monday. Im so confused because I have no blood but the cramps are still here. Really hope every things ok.

ok doc took another urine sample today and in fact i do have a uti. She informed me that could be the cause of my back pain. I start an antibiotic tomorrow. The scan went perfect! Baby is growing  and heart beat was strong.

peeing every 30 mins does seem like alot... I know i went through phases in early pregnancy where i would pee alot but generally it was because iw as drinking so much water.

at this point, I am peeing a lot and get the pain in the AM before i relieve myself but even know when the babys head low and being 33 weeks, I am peeing every 1 hour or a bit more ... not every 30 mins...

I hope your scan goes well today, keep us updated

well my doc got my rsults from my urine sample and pap last week. She said everything looks good , no signs of any kind of infection. Which is so weird because I am seriously having to pee every 30 mins sometimes less. When I wake up in the moring in hurts so bad untill I go relieve myself. The baby is not even big enough to be pressing on my bladder, so I thought for sure it was a uti related issue. Other than that back pain is a constant dull ache now. My doc is bringing me in for a ulta sound and check up again tomorrow  just to be safe. Hope everything gos well. Thanks for all the great advice.

You can buy OTC tests that will check for UTI and Kidney Infections. I had a Kidney Infection and it was nasty. I vomited nonstop for 3 days straight and was super dehydrated--which of course you definitely want to avoid while pregnant. I would find out sooner than later and if that is the case it can get treated.

He didn't exactly put me on bed rest he just suggested that I take it easy for acouple days. Im wondering if it could be a uti , bladder infection or kidney infection. Maybe because I have had a hard time geting down water, the nausea had been so bad. Well the good news is the abdomial cramps are gone but I still have a lower back ache.

Are you on bed rest or anything? If not, I would just take it super easy and try not to overdue it. Avoid sex, or any form of orgasm--- an orgasm is a contraction and since you're already at threat (according to the ER) it could create more problems.

Dont worry about the heart beat change as it get stronger it can increase. In the beginning mine was always around 135 now it averages between 145 and 155.  Ive seen it get pretty high to while on the fetal monitoring machine, when the baby starts going it shoots up there

Yes the Er doctor said it was a threatened miscarriage but the baby looked fine. So he said it could go either way. My previous miscarriages were caused by blood cloting according to my ob. She ran a bunch of test and I am activated protien c resistant.  She says I may need to be on heparin when I get further along.

Cramping can be very normal I had tons with# 3.  Having m/cs just makes you worry so much more.  You could have a uti which causes cramps.  Also not being hydrated enough can cause them too so drink lots of water.  Good luck

The visit to the ER said you were having a threatened miscarriage? Likely just because you're cramping. Remember though, you CAN have cramping and usually it's very normal. I personally cramped and had pain for the first 25 weeks. Sometimes it was so bad I came close to tears. Did your doctors ever find a reason for your previous miscarriages?

Thanks for the reasuring post , but it also worried me that the er said it was a threatend abortion. That sounds terrible. Maybe Im just worried for nothing and need to stop calling my doc all the time. Lol Im sure she hates me my know.

Clysta Thanks for always answering my questions. Your great and you really know your stuff! I guess what I was really concerned with is that I have had 3 previous miscarriages that felt very similar to this , but there was always blood. Just hoping this is not the 4th.

I've had different dates for my ultrasounds as well. The last one I had they said I was a week further than I really am. I don't think it's an exact science how they get the dates using ultrasound. Some may measure more or less of the baby depending on what they see. I wouldn't worry about that too much. I guess the further you are into your pregnancy the harder it is to tell what the acctual age is so stick with what your doctor told you in the first place. And as for being able to get the ultrasound using just the belly one and not the vaginal I had the same thing happen when I went to the er and they just did the belly ultrasound and not the vaginal. I was about 10 weeks when that happened though. So I guess if they can see everything they need to there is no need to do the vaginal ultrasound. So I wouldn't worry try and relax, a little cramping in normal and just follow up with whatever the doctors told you at the ER and your regular doctor. Good luck with everything and try to relax!

Sounds like everything is fine. Is there anything in particular that has you concerned? The heartbeat is great, and measuring a week ahead just means you have that much less to go. :) It's also possible to have an abdominal ultrasound done at 8-9 weeks and see what you need to. Vaginal are usually preferred, but not always needed.

I had cramping until I was almost 12 weels. The doctor told me it was normal. They also told me to watch for a fever and  increased nausea and vomiting. And told me if I had that and my cramps well the  pain increased to call them
