fetal heart rate & gender determination

this is like torture to me and maybe others...

i finally got a heart rate today and it was 175...according to the old wives tales and my grandmother that indicates a girl....

i know there are special circumstances where this is not true and doesnt work for everybody, however for my son i was consistantly around 130-140...

for those of you ladies who know the sex of your baby can you please post the latest heart rate and what the gender is?

im 9 weeks 4 days today and the u/s tech said the heart will slow down a bit but nothing dramatic at this stage....

im curious to see how many this worked for and get some reassurance for myself

Everything I've read generally says that the heart rate will start around 170-180's then slow down till it levels out to around 140-150's.

With my middle child at 12 wks the heartbeat was 172 bpm by ultrasound -she's a girl

with my last child at 13 wks the heartbeat was 150 bpm by ultrasound -he's a boy

I don't know...the hb this time via u/s was 172 so we'll see in a few weeks.  I'm really hoping for a boy tho

I had two girls. The oldest's heartbeat at 9-10 weeks was 177 bpm. My youngest daughter's bpm was 140-160.

Predicting gender based on the heartbeat is only correct 50% of the time (according to a few pregnancy books I have AND my docs). So you still have a 50/50 chance of boy or girl.

It's not reassuring, sorry!

You are still early on in the pregnancy. Those heartrate "theories" don't hold true until later on in the pregnancy. My babies heartrate has been in the 160s throughout and at my last appointment I was about 13 weeks. I asked my doctor and she said that the heartrate will now start to slow down to a more normal steady range and stay that way throughout. I will be 16 weeks tomorrow and have another appointment in a little over a week and will see what's going on with the heartrate, whether it's dropped a bit or not. Either way, sometimes that myth is true and sometimes not. My friend had a baby girl that had a consistent heartrate of 120 throughout her pregnancy. She is pregnant with another girl and the heartrate is still low this time around. Either way, you are still too early on to know for sure if the heartrate will slow or will stay high.

When I was 10.5 weeks the heartrate was 171 when I went back at 16 weeks it was 156 so I was thinking it was a girl at first now I'm thinking boy...I wont find out for another 12 days and the wait has been driving me crazy.

please let me know what you are haivng

i have every indication that would lead me to believe girl...the sweet cravings, morning sickness, chinese lunar calnader, ring on a string....everything says girl...i thought with the heart rate i would be more inconclusive towards believing it was a girl

i want a baby girl so bad

When i first heard the heartbeat at 8w2 it was 163 and it went up from there for a few weeks.......i am now 18w1 and i have a doppler at home and the heartrate has been consitantly in the 147-150 range for the last few weeks  I am not sure what i am having and wont find out until the 4th but i "feel" like its a boy......but dont know for sure yet.

Forgot to mention that this time u/s at 8 wks 3 days was 182 and u/s a 11 wks 1 day was 172 so it dropped 10 bpm in just under 3 weeks.  I still have about 3 more weeks atleast until we can find out.

The heartrate theory didn't turn out to be right in my situation.  Every time it has been in the 160s and 170s, and I'm having a boy.

Waitn838, please oh please don't get your sights set too high for a girl this early on. If the ultrasound revealed a boy, it would crush you and might make you resent the baby. I mean, you'd obviously get used to the idea, but just try to relax and not focus so much on girl, girl, girl. No matter what you're having you'll love them!!!

And time is going to feel like it is dragging, but March is almost here!
