I've used gas and air with all 3 of my labours, its great stuff, especially if you get it early enough that you feel the benefit between contractions! I giggled my way through, it just makes you feel a little drunk for a few seconds after a contraction, it really helps focusing your breathing as you have to inhale and exhale deeply to get the effect. Top tip...dont bite on the tube, what a headache I had after my second child as I clenched my teeth round it so hard. I tried my best not to do it this time and didnt get the headache. Its great stuff for a natural labour, but it does make some people feel sick.

i had gas, it is safe for baby. as soon as you aren't inhaling the effects are completely gone.
i used it and thought it was very helpful. it did help regulate my breathing and gave me something to focus on but i really did feel it.
i didn't need an epi, it was a beautiful experience! best of luck figuring out your birthing plan. : )

I read about gas online but don't know anything about it being used in the states. Is it? I would also like to avoid the epidural if possible but I'm also a ftm and have only heard of docs using morphine n epidurals. ???

I had gas, didnt do much I think its the mouth piece that helps, having sumthing to grip yr mouth on instead of swearing. LOL. Apart from that I had pethadine which for me felt like it did nothing also. No epidural. Im from Australia.

That's great. I wish it was like that down here...the hurry up and try to ether induce you to get it over with and then give you the epi....they mainly try to force it on you sometimes.....but thank you so much :)

If its just gas and air its perfectly safe. Very common in the UK as they try to get you to do it as natural  as possible
