i dont understand...

i am pregnant with my first child and i just went to my first doc. apt. for an ultra sound. i am currently 5 months in the pregnancy and when i went for my apt. all they did was listen to my stomach. they said they didnt find a heart beat, but never did an ultra sound. earlier in the pregnancy i had some bleeding and terrible cramps so i figured a miscarriage was in place, but to my surprise i still felt the baby kicking... I just want to know why it is still kicking but they didnt find a heart beat.

If I were you I would demand an U/S. Your baby could be hiding behind your heartbeat, making hearing it's impossible. Both my children did this but the doc. never thought anything abut it and sent me for an U/s. please ask for one before you make any other decision.

It doesn't matter you still had bleeding and are now not getting a heartbeat but you still feel movement. I would got to the hospital immediately and tell them what is going on. I went in at 20 weeks my last pregnancy because I wasn't feeling movement and they got me onto their machines and found the heartbeat, then to help reassure me more I was given an ultrasound so I could see she was safe and ok. Also, cramps are normal in pregnancy I'm almost 32 weeks now I still get them.

You're 5 MONTHS along?! Its way too far into the pregnancy for it to be a miscarriage or an ectopic. I would go to the hospital since if you are 20 weeks they should immediately take you into labor and delivery and hook you up to their machines and give you an ultrasound.

my friend's mother gave me a new place to go and my mom said i should just forget about it and that its for the best but i agree if its still kicking i shouldnt give up hope. other than a miscarriage i thought maybe an ectopic pregnancy but im not sure... i thought about just waiting a while before but then again i dont want anything to be seriously wrong. i definitely will get an ultra sound soon.

I agree with everyone else I would either switch providers or demand an U/S or even to be seen again and this time with more patience to find the heartbeat.  I would say that if you feel the baby then everything would be fine.  But it never hurts to double check.

I am shocked to hear that Doctors can be so insensivite. So cant find heartbeat and left to deal with it? Wow. I would definitely demand an U/S and change to a doctor that does what he or she is supposed to.

Good luck. As long as you feel baby moving, there is nothing to worry about.

That's wierd! They can't not let you have an ultrasound, it's your right. Get another appintment ASAP and demand one, that's unbelieveable. Get another Doctor too, I would change ASAP.

Wow.  What kind of doctors are they?  I would schedule another appointment immediately, like tomorrow, and demand an ultrasound during your next appt.  Bleeding can be pretty normal in early pregnancy, but even then, they should have done an Ultrasound.  Find someone that you can have a close relationship with, or a midwife.  Midwives are a bit more sensitive to your needs.  I had two, out of three of my children and they are absolutely wonderful!

I would demand a US. But the baby could be hiding behind your heartbeat. Mine does I am 18 weeks, and had bleeding and everytime its taken them about 15-25 mins to find a heartbeat... :(

I am guessing they are just really inexperienced or REALLY lacking patience!!!  This would be a red flag for me!!  Can you switch providers?  Babies move around and sometimes finding them can be hard, but with patience they can be found.  :)
