to deliver vaginally doesn't have anything to do with your size it is about the shape of your cervix i was 110 pre pregnancy n had to get a c section i have a narrow cervix so my baby was stuck but i can deliver a baby 6 pounds but anything over 6 is to big for my cervix just consult with your doctor
boy in December completely naturally and with almost no tearing. My labor never slowed down, or had any issues with him being stuck. There's a lot you can do that helps. Look up exercises like squats and pelvic rocking that help get baby in the right position and prepare your body. Don't let them induce you or give you pitocin unless you absolutely need it. Stay out of bed and move around as much as you can during labor, and when you're in bed try to stay off your back as much as possible. Delivering on your back you're working against gravity and the angle narrows your pelvis. I spent a lot of labor on a birthing ball then actually delivered on my hands and knees. Listen to your body and how it wants to move during labor, don't worry about how they "usually" do things. Believe in yourself! Good luck!
I also weighed 110 before getting pregnant. I'm only 5'2" and am built very slim. Lol one day during my OB clinical for nursing school us students were comparing pelvis shapes (weird, I know, but there wasn't anything going on) and my instructor told me I have the worst type of pelvis for childbearing. Well, I delivered a 8lb 4oz
Thanks ladies. It sort of puts my mind at ease that it is completely possible to go vaginally. I just can't stand the fact of a c section espically since this is my first if I had to have one id be so depressed knowing I could never naturally have a baby. Weight has always been an issue for me. I was bullied because of it and always self concious now so....a csect would really top it off... Ugh
You should be able to deliver vaginally but I will say that if your hips don't widen enough then they will do a c section. But they'll always try vaginally first. I was 120lbs, size 3 prepregnancy and I've gained plenty of weight but my doctor isn't sure if my hips are quite wide enough. She said that we would definitely try it vaginally first but she just wanted me to be prepared just in case we end up having no other options. But as long as your body adjusts you should be totally fine.
I have a friend who at her heaviest is around 120 pre pregnancy she was 98 lbs and a size 0 she thought she would need a c section she wasn't even against it really but she delivered her baby girl vaginal birth without a problem
You should have a choice first. Don't let the doctor pressure you into a C-section just because you're small doesn't mean anything. My grandmother was 100 lbs soaking wet and had 4 babies naturally. My was tiny too and had two babies naturally no problem. I had a C-section and will be having another one with this baby, but it was medically necessary for me. I was in labor for two days and she wouldn't come out so they had to take her out. So once you have a C-section, natural birth is out of the question for any other pregnancy since they say you won't have the muscle to push. It wasn't bad but the recovery time is so much longer and the pain is incredible cause of a huge surgery incision. I would avoid a C-section unless it is absolutely required.
Thanks geekmom1213! The more reassurance I get the better I feel! Lol
Being petite isn't a reason you need a c section. Its only done if medically necessary, in some cases you may not have a choice unless you want to risk your baby's life. Plenty of petite women deliver vaginally just fine. Long as baby is head down at the time of labor and no other problems exist, you'll be fine. Around 36wks, you & your doctor will decide what your options are and you just go from there. Good Luck!
I was 115lbs prepregnancy and am very small framed. I delivered my nine pound boy vaginally without medication and had no tearing or damage. I have a friend who was 4'10" and 100lbs when she had her daughter at 16 and delivered vaginally without medication. Anyone who tells you that just because you're small it's impossible... is misinformed or trying to deceive you.
I wonder how often that happens? Babies getting stuck in the birthing canal.
Thanks aeris84. That's some reassurance! I'm 29w and just been thinking about this a lot lately since my time is coming so fast!
The baby could get stuck in the birthing canal bc of how small you are, but then again that doesnt always happen and you could deliver vaginally. But anyone could have to have a c-sec so just go in there knowing anything is possible
I'm not afraid of the pain honestly. I just don't want a c section!!! Like I'm fully against it unless it was completely necessary. I mean if tiny women in Africa and China can have babies without any doctors or hospitals I don't see why I can't. But I know that now days for some reason the doctors try to push c sections on you even when they are not completely necessary.
With my first, my pre-pregnancy weight was 110 and I was a size 0. I naturally delivered a 10 lbs baby in 9 hours. Your hips spread in order to deliver your baby. c-sections are not always a have to, even with large babies with small mama's. ;)
I have been wondering the same thing. I was 105 pre pregnancy
What other complications could occur though just based on the fact that I'm small?
my mom was very small, one of the main reasons youll have a c section is if your baby weighs a real lot (her first born was over 11 lbs)
and any other reason would be complications, you can check with your doctor but most likely they will have you try naturally before anything else.
You should talk to your doctor. You do have a choice
