impending miscarriage

I went for an ultrasound 11 days ago and they found a single gestational sac measuring 18mm which made it 6 weeks 5 days, they saw a yolk sac but nothing else. Went for another ultrasound this morning and they saw a gestational sac measuring 34.8mm which makes it 8 weeks, also they saw the yolk sac again but this time we also saw the fetal pole and a clearly visible fetal pulsation but the baby only measured 3mm which makes it 5 weeks. They also found a small haemotoma (bleed) underneath the sac but not inside it. I am now worried sick as to what is going to happen to my baby. Is this a sign of an impending miscarriage or can it be normal to have a haemotoma and also have the sac and fetal pole measuring quite different in dates. I did have a large amount of water with my daughter who is now a healthy 3 year old. I have had no bleeding what so ever so far and slight cramping pains which have now passed. I also have started to feel slightly nauseous at times, so I still feel pregnant.

I am so sorry.  I know exactly how you feel.

unfortunately, the pain doesn't just go away.  It will always be there.  Over time it does get easier, but it is still there.  I had a miscarriage last year.  It tooke me monts & months before I didn't cry myself to sleep.  Certain dates are hard, like due dates & such.  seeing others babies.  Oh, I'm soo sorry...

I strongly suggest some sort of counceling.  Perhaps you can talk about moving the wedding date back up???  Last year, after my miscarriage, my husband threw himself headfirst into buying us a new home.  At the time I was pissed cause he was doing all this "fun" planning while I was trying to greive, but it really did help to have something to busy oulselves with.

People will say things like, "it wasn't your time, it will happen someday, or it wasn't in the cards."
hearing these things just really pissed me off!  I know they were just trying to help & didn't know what to say, but it is all so hard.

I'm sorry you are going through this.

Hi all, just to let you know that I went back on Monday for another ultrasound. My baby died just after my last scan, which was 14 days ago there was a heartbeat then. On Monday they did the scan and found that the baby had stopped growing at 5 weeks and lost the heartbeat My pregnancy sac was 10 weeks which was right for my dates. Had a d & c yesterday. I am gutted so much because we had our wedding booked for June 2011 and then we found out I was pregnant after booking the church and hotel. The baby was due 23rd May and we didnt want the baby and wedding so close together, so we put the wedding back until 1st June 2012. I have nothing to look forward to now next year and just feel so empty.

If the epau are refusing to help can you not ask docs to refer you to another epau? It is unfir of them to leave you worrying, I can understand they dont want to scan as too soon but surely they can do the hcg blood levels, even your gp can do that, good luck

I rang the epau again and all they said is that they wont scan me again until my nxt appointment which is 2 weeks time, they also said they wont take blood either, I think I am worrying because in my first pregnancy I had a blighted ovum and had to have a d&c at 8 weeks, then I went on to have my daughter who is now 3 had slight bleed with her too and now this. All 3 pregnancies have been so different so I cant compare them to each other. Thank you for all your support though it is nice too know there are people out there that do, unlike the docs and nurses I have seen so far.

As you yhave the heamatoma it is nrmal to expect some bleeding, I see you are n the UK. i have had to e dealt with at an epau and they were great they did take blood to see if my levels were going up as they should be, give them a ring and see if the will do this for you.  Good luck

Can you go to your local emergency room and mention the bleeding, so they would do another ultrasound?  It would also be helpful if they would draw blood and check your Hcg levels (you should have two different draws, 48 hours apart, to see if your numbers are doubling).  I wish you the best.

I have woke up this morning to some browny stained discharge, I rang my local epau and they said it can be the haematoma coming away but still have to wait another 2 weeks for a scan. Am even more concerned now as they told me the bleeding can bring the baby out with it : (

Pregnancy is sooo hard and reallydifficult on the womans mind.  Think positive you have good signs that all is going to be ok. Theres many ladies on here that have been or are going thru similar things as to what you are. If you need a chat come on here and I am sure there will be someone you can talk about what you are feeling.  Hope everything ok for you

Me and my partner asked the sister what is going to happen with regards to the bleed and she just said we will monitor it, we also asked them what she thinks is likely to happen and she she just said I cant tell you, all I can say is that everything seems ok for now. Then as we were leaving she said I will see you in 2 weeks fingers crossed, to me that says she dont think I will go back in 2 weeks still pregnant, but to my partner he thinks everything is fine. I have now got to wait for 2 weeks and I know the suspense will drive me into a deep depression waiting. I am slightly positive due to the fact that the baby has grown and developed a heartbeat and I haven't bled at all so far, but just cant help worrying.

The position of the fetus may not have been that great and thats why it is measuring differently. You have seen good progress in the last two weeks and you have seen the heartbeat so the likely hood of a miscarriage has dropped significabtly. As to the heamatoma I have heard of may women including mysel having on of the these and the baby has been fone.  Have the booked you in for another u/s or dony any bloodwork?

wow.  that is alot for anyone to take in.  I am sorry you are going through this.

What did your doctor say?  did u ask?  Sometime it is nice to have someone else in the room with you to ask questions and remember answers.  When it is all actually happening we sometimes don't think to ask questions, because we are in shock & worry at the time.

I wish I had the answers for you.  I had a miscarriage last year, but my baby STOPPED growing.  a few days later I started spotting & then finally heavy bleeding.

Your case is so complicated because you grew & then there is the hemotoma.
best wishes.
