inducing labor?

hello, i am being induced tomorrow morning, and i am TERRIFIED! i am a first time mother, and my entire pregnancy has been very rough, and now that it is finally coming to an end i dont know what to think! i was wondering if any of you have been induced, and what it was like, how quick it went, etc. what do they do to induce you? i am only 1 centimeter dilated and last i knew 50% effaced, and theyc ouldnt break my water because my cervix is still tipped a little bit i guess....please share your stories!!!

I was induced with my Son. They used the gell and broke my waters. To be honest being induced has its positives because you are already in hospital. My fear is the opposite in that being my second pregnancy I will go straight into established labour and be too late for an epidural - thinking of camping outside the hospital just in case :)

i was only in labor for 5 hrs, she came and broke my water about halfway through, and thats when it started hurting! sometimes that drip can go really fast causing your contractions to be one on top of the other, so let the nurses know so they can slow it down, so you can breath! but dont be scared theres nothing to it! youll be fine!

I was induced with 2 of my children, and let me tell you.... It was horrible!!! I don't mean to scare you and I'm not trying to.... There is a diff. between your body going into labor on it's own, and you being "chemically" induced..... When you go into labor on your own, your body gives you time to build up to the contractions, because they don't come on as strong..... But, if your induced chemically, it's must worse.. At least in my opinion.... When you are induced, you DO NOT have time to build up or get used to the contractions before they get strong because it's just there.. Hard and painful...... I would reccomend if you are going to be induced, then to get an epdural so you can relax....You really cannot relax with potocin unless you have some kind of pain relief or you have a very high tolerance for pain! *LOL* Good luck to you and we hope to see pictures of that little one soon!!!!

I was induced for my first son and I'm actually requesting that we do it again with this baby. It is so calming to know that you are being taken care & being monitored from the start to the finish.
I was dialated 2 centimeters two weeks before and was still at 2 that day. I went in at 6:00 AM and was like you VERY SCARED! They gave me an enema (not sure if thats spelled right) I thought that was the worst part of the day...and that isn't painful, just embarrasing. They immediately started my IV of pottocin once I was done in the bathroom. My Doctor came in and broke my water sometime in the early morning, but I can't remember exactly when. (That isn't painful)Around 10:30 AM my contractions started pretty intense. At noon they were coming every 3 minutes like clockwork and I asked for the epideral. (That wasn't painful either. The first shot stung a little and then the area was numb before they actually placed the epideral in)Once that was done, it was smooth sailing. We watched Tv and waited. Around 3:00 PM my doctor came in and I was only 7 centimeters dialated and at 3:45 PM I felt pressure (not pain) I asked the nurse when she entered my room what I was feeling and she checked and my son was right there. She closed my legs and said "Don't Push, he's right there!" She called my doctor and my son was born at 4:08 PM.
I wouldn't have changed a thing. I was very scared, but very ready to not be pregnant any longer and also I had a lot of excitment about meeting my baby. I couldn't wait to see this little person that had been growing inside of me. I was so in love with him BEFORE I saw him...didn't realize how much you could love anyone. I am filled with more love everyday for him. He is the love of my life and yours will be too.
You will be fine and everything will go okay.
Congratulations!
Keep us posted when you're back home and settled in. I would love to hear your story...I'm going to do it again in August.

Good Luck either way, I had two c-sections, both emergency situations.. Which are not bad either, so dont get nervous if you have to have one.  Go in and enjoy the best thing you could do in your life, making another one.. I will keep you in my thoughts, and trust me I will, I cant wait to be there in a few months, with another c-section..

I was induced with both my babies, the first one, they broke my water at 6am and then at 10 they started me on the patocin (SP) and I was fine, I made them feed me cause I was starving. At 1pm exactly, labor started for me and there was nothing starting gradually. I didn't have one contraction until 1pm and then it all broke loose, lol. I ended up having him at 5:02pm. With my daughter, they started the inducing stuff and tried breaking my water, but they couldn't, it wouldn't break cause she had already broken it 7 days earlier and "plugged" the hole with her teeny lil precious stubborn finger. Anyway, my labor with her started at 6:30pm and here she came into the would at 9:47pm. Don't be scared, you will do just fine and just think, all you have been preparing for and waiting for will finally be here and in your arms! Praying for a safe and healthy delivery tomorrow, and as painless as possible.

I should tell you that if Pitocin doesn't work, they will most likely break the bag of waters to jumpstart labor (this also causes your body to go into labor and contract) since you are already dilated.

If you get an epidural, I believe they will also put a catheter in (for pee). Because of labor you may be shaky (adrenaline and fatigue will do that). You may also throw up or feel nauseous. Remember, every woman is different! IT won't last forever. They'll get that baby out for you.

I hope this helped paint a picture of what MIGHT happen and that you'll feel better. It's really not as scary as it all sounds. It's just new and mysterious.

One thing I remember about labor is thinking, "I don't care who sees me "down stairs" just get the baby out!" You really will be SO FOCUSED on baby that the rest will seem like a blur. And once you hold your baby, none of the pain or sweat or shaking will matter anymore. It will be bliss.

They'll strip your membranes (basically separate the bag of waters from the cervix if it hasn't done it itself). They may have already done this, even without telling you, at your last appointment. This causes hormones to go throughout your body, telling your uterus to contract and begin labor.

Pitocin is a synthetic hormone meant to mimick the hormones that a woman would release during labor. This doesn't always work! Sometimes the body just isn't ready.

They will break your water if it doesn't break on your own whenever the doc seems fit.

When you arrive they'll have you pee in a cup (check for infections, etc.), put on a gown, and hook up these straps to your belly, one to measure contractions. The other is to listen to baby's heartbeat!!! (you can turn the volume on or off, I believe).

They'll start an IV with fluids (and Pitocin is put in the IV as well... so would your epidural if you got one). So you will probably be in bed the entire time instead of getting to walk around, bounce on a ball, take a bath, etc.

You'll be allowed to have an epidural at some point if you want it. Pitocin can cause painful contractions so you may want it even if you planned a natural birth.

And labor will be just like labor for other women except for the Pitocin. You'll do just fine!!! Remember, women have been doing this for centuries. Just think, your sweet baby will be home in two days after tomorrow!

Try to get as much rest/sleep as you can (it will be hard!!!). You're going to need the rest.

I was induced with  my 1st. It really goes very ez. They will get you in the room and do all the stuff they need to do. Then they will start you on the Meds. For me After a few hours of nothing really happening They broke my water, and at that point I did  start to feel the contr. after 3hour of that I got my epi. thank god for that. I got a little sleep and after 4hour of that I started pushing and after 18min of after I had my son. only a 7.5hour labor. most of the people I know that have been induced have a very short labor, but not everyone. My sister was induced and her labor was 18-19hours.

Just remember to push as hard as you can and in your butt area.

i was induced my first son. i was only dailated about 2 cen befor  hand. went in that morning at 530,thet started an iv and gave me an enima.started that petucin or how ever you spell it in my iv  , about 7:30 the doc came in and broke my water. my contrations never would get in a rythm but really long and hard and think i was only dailat to about 3 at about 3:30-4:00. around 5 his heart started to slow down, and i started going in and out, last thing i remeber was them telling me that they had to do an emergancy c section. they put a mask on my face and had me count to five and i dont even remeber counting to 3.

I was induced with my first and was scared as well, but it really wasn't bad.  I went in bright and early in the morning and they started me on petocin (spelling may be wrong) and I spent that whole day with nothing happening.  They took me off the drug at 5:00 and I spent the night in the hospital.  The next morning they started me again on petocin and the progress was again really slow----by the way both days I was never in pain while they were inducing me.  Later that second day they broke my water for me then labor progressed very quickly.  Once I started feeling labor pains I wanted an epidural and after that it was all a breeze!  I had my son on the second day of inducing at 6:34 p.m., but don't worry....it might not take this long for you!  LOL  I strongly recommend an epidural---it worked wonders for me:)  Gool luck sweety!
