iron pills?

So what are they for? Do all the pregnant ladies have to take them? Or only the ones who need them?

They help to increase your blood supply but not all pregnant women need them.
I was put on a daily regime before I got pregnant cos I had really heavy periods which made me anaemic. After I got pregnant, I took it for a while during the first trimester to supplement my blood production and then stopped when I started getting constipation from it. Now I'm back on it again because my blood count was low: usu when you're pregnant, your body produces a lot more blood but in some women like me, the blood may be too diluted giving rise to low haemoglobin content. They usually test for that at 28 weeks but I was tested at 20 weeks because I was getting fatigued and dizzy for no reason (usu fatigue and dizziness may be signs of anaemia).
I hope this helps.

Everyone should be taking a prenatal or iron supplement during pregnancy. Iron is very hard for our bodies to absorb but is vital to the baby's development. Some people with low iron take both a prenatal & seperate iron pill because their iron is so low.
