is 37 weeks really safe to deliver?

hi all! so im 37 weeks, 1 day. I've been having signs that labor could be right around the corner for me. when i talk to my doctor, he said that we'll take it as it comes. i guess 37 weeks is considered full term but is it acctually full term? has anyone had any problems with babys born at 37 weeks, like they're not fully developed yet? im scared to just 'take it as it comes' because the one thing i want to do is leave the hospital with the baby right away. and i don't want to take any chances.

I had a 7lb 7oz little boy at 37 weeks and he was good to go. Some babies do have neuro issues that early but it is rare. They will watch the lungs/breathing closely. GOod luck!

I had my daughter at 37 weeks and she was a healthy baby; she was nearly 8lbs! If you were to go into labor now baby should be fine. Congrats, wish you the best!

In the state of Texas, 39 weeks is the earliest they let me have an "elective" c-section. Elective meaning it was a repeat c-section and I had not gone into labor prior. Had I gone into labor before, like at 37 or 38 weeks then that is ok. Or if there was another medical reason to go before 39.  Also in TX you can't be induced prior to 39 weeks unless medically necessary.

Full Term is defined as between 37-42 weeks. If your body goes into labor, baby is ready. You can safely deliver at 37 weeks. I had both my boys at 37 weeks and they were both healthy and happy! My water broke on its own both times. Good luck!

Some say 39wks but that's because a lot of insurance companies won't pay for you to have baby till than...I had my son at 38wks and he was 6lbs 15oz and had no problems what's so ever I think if baby is born they will be just fine no worries love :))

I delivered my first daughter at 37 wks. She was healthy as an ox. No problems what so ever. She was fully developed. She weighed 5lbs 12oz but that was because she was 3wks premature. I dont think u should worry. Talk to ur doc more tho if u are:) I am now 32+2 wks with my second girl. I pray she stays in longer but who knows. If she is born around the same time im sure she will be just fine. I hope this helps and goodluck!
