is inducing healthy?

Ftm. My mother always tells me not to allow any dr to bully me into getting induced. She says the human body does it all on its own. I havent gotten checked for dialation yet. I have my final ultrasound today. I'm 38+4 . What are some reasons to get induced?

I was induced with my first at 39 wks  and had no issues other then hemoraging but they got it taken care of quickly.. but that can happen rather ur induced or not

I was induced with my first pregnancy and he is a happy healthy 2 yr old now. We had no complications at all and it only took 6 hours didn't have an epidural either. Got 5 stitches but that was it. I'm kind of afraid to go into labor on my own.

Also I read the comment about doctors trying to convince you to get induced for their own purpose but my ob didn't even deliver my baby. Depending on where you live they have doctors on staff here all the time so whomever us there is the one to deliver the baby. I enjoyed my time at my hospital everyone was very nice and he midwife that was on staff most of the time I was there always checked on me and even after I had the baby she came to see me. So honestly that all depends on where you live.

I got induced at 41 weeks with the balloon catheter. It is not chemically based nor do they have to shoot you up with anything. They just simply put a balloon inside you and fill it with water. I walked around a lot and bounced on a ball. I felt much more comfortable using that then getting injected with anything. All it does it weighs on your cervix so it opens up and softens. I recommend everyone who gets induced and asks me to research it and decide. My doctor had me induced because he didn't want my son getting too big in my belly. But there are plenty of reason doctors give you I was just so big and so uncomfortable and passed my due date that I researched the balloon catheter and picked that that was the way I wanted to go.

Key though, none were your first pregnancy.  Doctors would not risk a woman's or baby's health for their own sake unless they are a bad doctor.  While those exist, they aren't the norm.   The practice of ob/gyn carries around the highest malpractice insurance because of so many willing to claim all is their fault at a terrible time of labor and delivery disaster and therefore, the majority are very mindful in the role they play.

I was induced at 38 weeks and 2 days because of a two vessel cord and low amniotic fluid. He was like squished down in my pelvis because there was not enough fluid. He was also born with a knot in his cord. All in all, my labor was 12 hours with 15 minutes of pushing. His heart rate was amazing the whole time and I didn't even get an epidural. Induction isn't always a bad thing and your doctor isn't a bad guy for suggesting it. 9 times out of 10, there is a very valid reason for an induction. And if you find out that there isn't, you can always refuse. But don't just refuse because you believe induction is your doctor being selfish.

I have been induced 3 times. The first time was with my second baby and my midwife knew at 36 week's I had a 8 and a half pound baby. She thought I would go into labor on my own while she was out of town the following week so she induced me at 37 week's. My baby was very healthy and almost nine pounds. No problems with labor or baby. My next two were inductions by Dr at my request because I feared a c section due to large babies. They were large and very healthy with uncomplicated labor's. I was very lucky that everything went so well all three times, it went so well the first that I had my younger kids with me in the delivery room with the next two.

Drs will try to convince you to agree with their choices that are for their convenience. They will try to act like they have a good reason and you have to know well enough if it is the right decision for you and your baby or you will just be going with the flow instead of giving your baby the best chance and you the labor you really want. I was very happy with my inductions and they were the right thing for me and my babies but it is not the same for everyone.

I WAS induced with my second child but that was a happy offering at 39 weeks and all is good.  Actually it was more of an issue with my first being 10 days overdue than my second being full term at 39 weeks in terms of deliveries.  

luck to you but honestly, doctors usually make pretty wise recommendations for their patients.  They take an oath to keep their best interest and the baby's as most important.  peace

There really aren't too many doctors that try to have you induced with your first pregnancy.  It is widely known that induction for first pregnancies leads to an increased chance of c sections.  I generally don't think you'll run into a bully doctor trying to get you to induce.  :>)  Let us know if you do.  

It's usually the other way around---  women wanting to be induced and being told no.  That was the case with me and my first baby.  

Sorry about your mother's loss.  You don't often hear of moms having babies at the same times as your daughters so assumed she was older.  good luck

I am going to be induced at 37 weeks because this past April my baby passed away it was a stillbirth so now my doctor doesn't want tl risk anything happening to my baby.

@wayfunmommy yes!! They are out there. There is a such thing as drs bullying to get their way. I don't bump it with any dr. Everyone thinks because a person has the "dr" title that they aren't capabke of making human mistakes. Thank you for understanding.

I heard that they also induce because of the risk of infection to the baby after the possibility of them passing their first bowel movement because highly likely. They say the baby could inhale it and have an infection that they will have to be treated for after birth. I have heard the notion that the placenta dies, but I heard it is a slow process and takes a long time to happen and usually doesn't effect baby right away. They say if you can have the baby naturally go for it, but sometimes being induced is the only way.

Why would they give you blood thinners!?? Thats such a stupid thing to do while pregnant.  Especially if you have a c section.  My mom had blood thinners and hemorrhaged. The risk of hemorrhaging is so much higher on blood thinners. Its very dangerous

Is is not healthy, but sometimes necessary. Pitocin stresses the baby out because your contractions are closer and stronger so thats no brake for you or baby thats why the babies heart rate sometimes drops when induced. You can go 42 weeks. But what they say about placenta getting old...is true but not accurate. Yes it gets old, but takes a really long time to do so and with just 20% still good the baby is healthy.  I was 41 weeks and there was just a tiny little spot that was getting old. Most ftm go 41weeks but I know someone who go 43 every time

The only good reason for an induction is a medically necessary one. Babies need time to finish baking and do much better when allowed to come on own terms. Induction increases risk of c section too and some women don't realize it's major surgery that will affect all subsequent births.

There are actually some doctors who have been known to induce because it is more convenient for them. They are usually the exception to the rule, but they are out there. I've known doctors who tell their patients baby will be too big if they go to their due date. Patient goes in starts induction and then finds out the entire maternity ward is full of this doctor's patients being induced. Turns out doctor is about to leave on a two week vacation and didn't want to pay anyone else to "catch" his babies. It's just one example. Like I said. These doctors are not the norm, but they are out there.
Do what you anyone really comfortable with. In a healthy pregnancy, it is better just to let baby come on its own.

Induction is all up to you but your Dr is not going to induce just to do it. Many women get induced with no problems. You could be waiting forever for your body to do it on its own.

I'm getting induced at 38 weeks which is this Wednesday because I have choleostasis which is a liver disorder I have&I had alot of pressure it hurts so bad to turn but I have notice is because I walk alot and when i walk at night I really can't move so much but good luck
