It also seems a little funny to be worried about whether Plan B hurts a baby and all of that, only after she has done it three times.  Weren't you worried about this the first time or the second?

Anyway, ditto the others on getting her onto birth control and yourself into condoms.  You lose the moral high ground about being worried about the consequences if you aren't being responsible at the front end.

I agree with the others. You don't seem like you want to have a baby, so is there a reason you're not using protection? Plan B is ONLY meant to be an Emergency Contraceptive. It's not meant or made to be used in place of proper birth control. The dose of hormones in EC's is similar to overdosing on a couple dozen birth control pills. You both need to work something on and get her on birth control as well as using condoms.

I think Sweetpea is right.  We are not here to tell you how to live your life but she offers good advice..  The morning after pill is called plan B because its designed to be used as an emergency contraceptive, not regular use..  3 times in 6 months is a lot.. It has a lot of negative side effects on the female body.  Im surprised she is willing to keep using is as people often experience heavy painful periods and vomitting when taking it.. Of course, everyone is different..

But since it seems clear that pregnancy is not something you want right now, you should use preventive protection such as condoms, birth control patch, depo, mirena, the pill..   I know it can be hard to reach out to people for these things but it is important..  Planned Parenthood or resources like sexual health centre can usually help you with these sorts of things...  I know when I first went on birth control, I got it from a sexual health centre and I could get it without a prescription for $5.00 a pack.. Evenually, I just spoke to my parents about it, which made it alot easier.. But things were different by then, I was 18 and had been with the same partner for well over a year so they were a bit more understanding. Clearly this may not be an option depending on your parents and your age...  But if you cannot access these things, schools, sexual health centres usually have condoms available for free..  You are generally allowed to take a whole bag of them if you want.. So you dont even need to worry about buying them...  Though community services dont generally like to encourage youth to engage in sexual activity, the reality is that regardless we know that youth are having sex and the idea by providing these services is harm reduction..   If they are going to do it anyways, how can we help them do it safely.

The morning after pill can have many negative side effects for your girlfriend, as it is a very large dose of hormones that shock her system. She may feel nauseous, have cramping, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, breast tenderness, and so on, depending on how she reacts to the extra hormones. She really should not be taking the morning after pill often and 3 times in a short 6 month period is not healthy. I wouldn't worry about what has already happened, since you can't change the past, but do make sure from now on that you are much more careful about protecting her from pregnancy. You need to be wearing a condom from start to finish, and I would also encourage her to use another form of birth control as well. There are many different options of birth control for her to use, so have her do some research on all of them and find out what will work best and then use it.

You asked about when pregnancy starts, like 2-3 days or a few minutes or 8-10 days.  The issue is what you mean by pregnancy.  If you want to know how fast a sperm can meet an egg and create an embryo, that can take only a few minutes, if an egg happens to be waiting right there when the sperm arrive.  But a lot of embryos are created that don't "take," for whatever reason.  Either there is a flaw in the embryo and it fades away, or the uterus is not receptive to the embryo, or it gets a short start but then there is a (very early) miscarriage.

A case could be made for pregnancy starting when an embryo begins, or when the embryo implants in the uterus, or even when you know you're out of the woods and the pregnancy isn't going to fail.  3 out of 5 early pregnancies start but don't continue.  So you could say it takes as long as 8-10 days for a pregnancy to "start."

I agree with everything Clysta said, but wanted to add that if there is a fertilized egg although the pill is supposed to prevent the egg from implanting it can still happen. She needs to wait until her period is due to start and take a test if it does not.

Sorry, pregnancy does NOT happen immediately.

This is correct, but it also depends on how you view things. The Plan B (regardless of what you used they're all the same) works to prevent ovulation and/or make the uterus unfriendly if conception does occur. Some see it as abortion as the egg and sperm would have met and the pill prevents the egg from embedding.

Pregnancy does happen immediately. A female first has to be ovulating. If she is, there's a 12-24 hour window that the egg is viable. If it's fertilized, it starts to divide and work it's way down into the uterus. This is usually a 7-14 day process. Once it's there, it will embed into the lining and the hCG hormone is secreted. If you do NOT want to have a child, you need to use condoms from before penetration occurs till after you're done, as well as have her get on birth control. Plan B is only 85% effective and should be used no more than 2x a year.
