its the name such a big deal?!?

Ok so my husband & I decide to name our baby boy Hades Alexander & his parents are making such a drama about it. A name doesn't define who you are. They say people would make fun of him or treat him bad.. like wth?! Why?!? Its just a greek name of a god! idk why they are doing such drama. Now my husband thinks we should change it & he was sooo in love with the name! am I overreacting??

Hades came before Satan. It's the religious people who make the connection between the two.

In my opinion, it's too dark. I'm not fond of it. When he introduces himself,  people will probably think it's a nick name. Can't take it seriously as a name.  A name does mean a lot. You write your name hundreds of times in your lifetime, it's what you go by...who people know you as...how you first introduce yourself.
Not trying to change your mind,  just saying I would think of something else.

Hades is not a name I'd want to have. I absolutely love Greek mythology, but if I was going to name my son after a Greek god, it would not be Hades, god of the underworld. Because no, little kids may not know what it means..but those kids are gonna grow up, and they WILL make fun of him. It's the sad truth. Just because you like the name doesn't mean your child will. Think of his feelings and what he may feel saying, "nice to meet you, im hades." It's ultimately your decision of course, but I think parents try too hard to come up with unique names to where their picks are a bit much....that's just me.

In my opinion.  Your child has to survive life with that name.  High school and college. His professional life if he chooses a good career. I chose a name for my son that is somewhat unique. It isn't that popular anymore but I always chose it because it's something he can live with and not look back at his parents like really guys? In the end he's your son and you'll name him whatever you please.km  Just be prepared for bullying,  questions and possibly him wanting to go by Alexander when he is older.  Good luck

Im sorry but to me is just ignorant people.. Just because I name my kid Jesus Christ that doesn't mean his gonna be like "God" so yeah. Cuz if Hades was just a regular name nobody will have any problem with it. But because it "means" or people relate it with "satan, hell" its bad & the kid will have a horrible life! like really?! If you would belive such things as "hell" & Satan then you wouldnt be put in them in " "

I personally believe that names do give personality. And although it sounds kinda nice, I would too think that the name means Satan. But nowadays there's so many crazy names out there so like whatever, it's your choice.

Hades means Satan in greek.. like the term. . "Your going to hades" or hell.. with all that outta the way it's a nice name.. but the meaning in the name is very strong.  You might regret it later..

Apparently with my understanding names do mean alot and they symbolize what your child character will be and what he will per take.

Now in our culture if you call your child your parents names he/she tends to take their behavior. This has been proven over time. I wouldn't suggest you call your child hades but again it is your choice mum to be.

My humble views.

Hades does not equal Satan there are huge differences between the story of Hades and Satan. I'd like to make a point not everything has to equal god or Satan. And if your family has an issue with it honey tell them they can call him by his middle name. Honestly i like it. We were going to go with Blayke-Lynn for my little girl and everyone was giving us crap so we changed to it and have decided on Alyce. And i regret letting our families talk us out of it. Yes kids are mean but a kid is not his name. My baby cuz name is Yevin. And he doesn't get made fun of. But stick to your heart and go with what makes you happy. I promise you will not regret it

I think a lot more kids will have a basic understanding of who Hades is than you might think. Disney did make Hercules after all. It may be quite old now but most kids will have watched it. And honestly when he applies to colleges and for jobs people won't take him seriously.

I really dont like it at all but its your choice.   I dont think its odd that they would object to such a name tho.  You really cant understand why?

I think its cause its like naming your kid satan or lucifer. Greek mythology took a different approach to the god of the underworld but he is still the one who resides in "hell" and is in charge. Just like satan resides in hell.
But hey, do what you want as long as you and your SO can come to a compromise, dont do it because of someone else.

I like the name but people know that hades is the name of Satan in Greek and it weirds people out.  You wouldn't name your son Satan.
If your going to go for it you have to have thick skin.  People are going to make comments forever.  Trust me I named my daughter Maple Jane and you wouldn't believe the looks comments eye rolls and everything else.  I knew that I couldn't do an odd name unless I could handle it and also assume they might take up their more normal name later in life.

I don't think that's its the Greek mythology part people are saying they'll get made fun of for. Its the fact the Hades is practically saying hell. Like you're going to hades. So I get why your husband's parents might suggest they don't like it but honestly names are getting more and more unique and uncommon every year. I mean if I had a girl her name would've been Apple but I'm having a boy and his name will be Rambo. So I see no harm if you love the name then go for my family doesn't like the name we chose but we told them to deal with it or give him a nickname.

if you ask me YOU are the mama! so if YOU love the name that's all that matters. im sure once that beautiful baby comes out and you look at his little face you'll know his name is perfect and thats all that matters! though it may be family in the end it is your child so the name.should be your choice regardless of how others may feel. dont stress you are not overreacting :)

No I understand that they don't know about it but just as a general name some kid would hear it said wrong and they'd start there. I got bullied for my name because teachers can't read it or pronounce it right... Melaney (Melanie) maybe it's me but it doesn't look like ma-lane-e

I never tell the name until after the baby is born. That way, no one can say anything nasty about it. Once the baby already has the name,  they can't say anything without insulting the baby who they love.

Hate to say it but he probably would get bullied in school... kids aren't getting any nicer these days. I love it but I wouldn't choose it. But it's your child your choice
