Hahaha.. ok.. maybe not such a great example here.. I'm a chef also and only eat in places where I completely trust the crew..
but I still eat my steak blue rare, ate oysters for Christmas supper (east coast tradition), have had sushi a couple of times.. had to taste a raw-egg mayo at work daily and have eaten deli meats (also on the DANGER list).. umm.. and also eat unpasturized honey almost daily.. it's a running joke here as to seeing if I can complete the list before I deliver.
So really, if you know your farmers and you know where your food is coming from or FULLY trust who's preparing your food to take the necessary precautions, knowing that you're pregnant.. then I say givver.
I don't eat steak at restaurants I cook them myself. Beef is pretty safe for the most part it's really ground meat that has the bacteria that's prone to food poisoning. Ground meat is always cook well done for me.
I am craving a good tuna sushi roll but have stayed away from it. I got a California roll yesterday to try and satisfy the sushi craving but it didn't work. The risk with raw fish is much higher and just not worth it to me.
I have not worried so much about the steak.. med is how I order when preggers med rare ususally... but I would not go as far as sushi and runny or raw eggs... even if you know the resturant that is providing it to you .. you can never be too sure about the vendors. But I would guess a once in a rare while it might be okay - mu docs told me to stay away from sushi.. I am craving it though!
I eat my steak when its pink, eat sushi, eggs benedict, etc etc. I think that as long as u know where its coming from you re ok
You shouldnt eat it still pink because of the bacteria.
Resturaunts are a nightmare for giving you burnt steak.
I cooked mine at home, let it brown on the outside and then pour beef gravy in.
It stopped the outside burning and the middle was cooked through, plus it tasted lovely :-)
I'm a chef, went to culinary school, there is no way I can cook a steak well done it makes me cringe just thinking about it. I use to eat mine med rare now I ea them medium. Just a little pink no red.
I always ate my steak medium during pregnancy and never had a problem.
Well with my last pregnancy we ate steak quite a bit and before I got pregnant I ate it the rarest you could get it, and believe it or not I started eating it medium to medium rare and I never got sick or had any other problems associated with it. If you are definitely worried at least eat it medium and then slowly take it down or up in temp according to how your body reacts :)
