last name?

Okay so my ex has been pitching a fit over baby boy having his last name. Lawyer told me that if I don't make my sons last name my exs then my ex can go to a judge and tell them he wants it changed and they will change it. . .I found out you can put both last names on there. .usually its listed as "moms-dads" but I was wondering if you have to hyphenate the last names and if my last name could go last instead. Anyone know?

My freakin ex called me and was giving a guilt trip over me giving the baby my last name bcuz he didnt get to pick her middle or first. I did this pregnancy on my own, I will give my baby whatever last name i damnn well please. You should do the same. If he wants to pay to change it, then let it come out of his pocket.

I would perfer my son to have my last name. The father is. . .well I wish he was out of the picture completely lets put it that way. . .I live in Al. . .I didnt know that the last name could potentially affect child support though :/ I guess I do need to ask a different lawyer. Thanks ladies!

He can't have it changed without your consent.  Give your baby the last name YOU want your baby to have.  And you can get child support no matter what the baby's name is.

Baby doesn't need fathers last name to get child support. But I guess I was always told it was moms choice... I guess I'd ask another lawyer. Kinda seems weird. Like why would the fathers last name have more rights than the mother for last name?

tattoobabyjean is right it is up to the mother to choose whatever name she wants on the birth certificate. I know alot of women who give their babies the father's last name to get child support.  Not saying your that type of person. Ultimately it's your decision and whatever you decide it's what you know is best for your baby.

Depends on where you live dear, generally in the US (idk where you are) it is up to the mother or whoever has custody to choose the last name.

I have my mothers last name along with my younger brother but my sisters have their dads last name. As far as I know you can't force someone to court over that sort of thing.
