lochia and first period

hello, this is my first baby..so sorry if im a lil dumb.
gave birth via C section 7 weeks ago..and im still bleeding. It would come and go..days before Christmas it stopped and i bled again. I actually thought it was my period. How will i know if its my period already since I usually dont tract my menstruation before i got pregnant. Also, should i really wait for my first period before i can take birth contoll pills? doctor gave me Ortho micronor. Can I get pregnant even if im still having Lochia? coz the doctor says most likely not but ive heard diffrent stories. Thank you!!!

There will be 20 days of non-bleeding between bleeds in order to consider a new bleed your period.

You can become pregnant at any point when you have unprotected sex. Even with BC Pills you can become pregnant without some form of barrier between your vagina and sperm (like condoms).
