I lost mucus plug for months with both pregnancies. Doesn't mean much as it rebuilds yourself. Towards the end you'll possibly get a bloody show which is similar but can have streaks of blood in. We are told here if we have a bloody show to call labour ward

Lol ladies I remember when I lost my plug with my daughter. It all came out no bloody tinge though ran and had to show my hubby. Went into labor within 24 hours after losing it. But then again each woman is different.

Throughout pregnancy, a mucus plug blocks the opening of the cervix to prevent bacteria from entering the uterus. Before labor, this mucus plug is expelled allowing the baby to pass through the cervix during labor and birth. Passing a mucus plug is a sign that your cervix is dilating and that your body is preparing for birth. Labor could be hours, days, or even weeks away as the cervix gradually opens. The mucus plug is usually clear, slightly pink or blood tinged in color. It can be stringy mucus or a sticky discharge.

Your body makes a plug ( cork, so you can immagine It) its made of muscus just like snot. It keeps your cervix from catching infections and such and helps protect baby. You can look up immages of them on google If you want a better picture. They can fall out pretty early Sometimes but your body will make new plugs or "fix" any part of one you may have lost some of. But If you loose it too early your body will regenerate it until its time for baby. :)
