need advice

Hi im 4 months pregnant. I have been taking prenatal vitamins & iron except for folic acid. I read that doctors should recommend folic acid the most  & should be taking them in the beginning of pregnancy or even prior. Is it too late for me to start taking folic acid at 4 months?  Would it be ok for me to take it without my doctor's prescription?

I'm doing the reading and it says that most people either take flinstones or a prenatal pill. I was not aware of this when i started taking a prenatal and 2 flinstones a day. Im so worried sick now, that may be i 've overdosed. My first appointment is not for another few days. I can't wait to ask the doctor. Does anyone know if its safe to take  both????? Thank you

A prescribed vitamin should no doubt have folic acid. You don't want to take too much so you need to ask your doctor or call the company of the vitamins. Make sure they have it in them, then ask doc if you can take a folic acid supplement. It isn't too late to take one if your vitamins don't already have it.

thanks for the response..Mine doesn't show any drug facts/ ingredients in the bottle. I think i might have to take folic acid vitamins separately. But i heard i should have been taking them around 4-6 weeks of pregnancy for spine abifida . i hope its not too late now. Im really worried.

There should be enough folic acid in your prenatals.   I wouldnt worry about taking extra.  Your doctor gave you enough of what you need.

Many prenatals (most, in fact) have folic acid in them.  Look at the ingredients to be sure yours doesn't already have it.

Are your prenatal vitamins prescription or over the counter?
