no fetal heartbeat

The first day of my last period was on February 6th 2011.  I went in a week ago today and my Dr couldn't find the fetus.  I went back in today and he found the fetus, but no heartbeat??  He said the fetus is measureing at 6 weeks 4 days... He told me wait to see if my body would miscarry and if not he said he would recommend a D&C... Should I get a second opinion?? I'm alittle confused cause I know I got pregnant on the 20, 21, or 22 of February but there going off of the 6th of feb cause that was my last period week... I'm confused..

I would get a second opinion. Atleast you will know you made an effort to make sure. The heart may not have started beating yet. I went in for a sono at 5 weeks 6days and only saw a sac, when I went back 3 days later there was a little baby and a heart beat. Its miraculous the difference a couple days can make. Based on what you are saying with the dates, you should be right around where the doctor said (even if you got pregnant somewhere around the 20-22).  That would put you at around 9 weeks this week.  If you had your ultasound a week ago and it measured 6 wks it's not looking good.  You can ask your doc to repeat the ultrasound in a week and see if there is a heartbeat, but if not, it's definately a miscarriage.  

Becuase your body has not recognized it as a miscarriage it's known as a mismiscarriage or missed abortion.  I'm sorry, I wish I could give you better news :(  It won't hurt to wait a week or two to see if your body expells everything on it's own.  Otherwise you will need a d & c

Honestly it doesn't sound good. You should be about 9 weeks along and the baby is measuring small and doesn't have a heartbeat. Please get another ultrasound to make sure but I sounds like a missed miscarriage to me.

That's what I dont want to do is rush into something and have the guilt of not knowing if I aborted a perfect pregnancy... Everyone is telling me to go to the ER to get a second opinion... I'm scared.  I went through the breakdown earlier when we didn't see the heartbeat and he explained to me that basically my baby was dead... I'm stressed out and just want to know...

I'm sorry.  I meant to say see a heartbeat.  But they were told that there was no chance, just to find out their babies were perfectly fine and still growing!

We didnt see a heartbeat so we couldnt hear it...

Not all babies grow at the same rate.  It may be too early to hear the heartbeat but please keep you hopes up and stay positive.  I have heard of a couple of women recently whose doctors said they were miscarrying and went in for a D&C.  They insisted on one more u/s just to find out their pregnancies were still viable!  I will be praying for you and your little one!

Hello im not a Dr. but why dont you ask him to do another U/S next week to dobble ck some times you cant hear a heartbeat till 7-9 weeks.  I think you should get a second opinion. Good luck.
