I agree with tarajanes. I just wanted to say a shift increase lets you no that you have ovulated already(1-2 days ago). You can look at my tracker on this site if you want for this cycle. I actualy ovulated late this cycle, i usually would get a positive opk on cd15 and ovulate on cd16 then have a temp shift on cd17.

As far as temps being all over the place, i had a month where mine was all over the place too, but i was not taking my temp the same time everyday, somedays i was sick and was taking tylenol at midnight and i normally take my temps at 5:30am. Even taking your temp 1 hour later can cause a temp change, brain activity causes a temp change, thats why its a bbt, its suppose to be a temp while your body is at a resting state, so if you dont sleep well at night, your temps will b all over the place

Another thing is, you need to know what your normal body temp is, for example mine in 97.2-97.9 but its mostly in the low 97's, 98 and above, i no that im ovulating.

The opks are not reliable, you can get a surge(which is what they detect) then all of a sudden some type of stress or imbalance(hormonal) could happen, and you dont ovulate.  It just takes time to get to figure your body out.  Like im interested in seeing when my cycle will start, because ovulation determines when your cycle will start, at this point i dont have any fertility problems i should still have a 12-14 day L.Phase, which will actually make my cycle be 30days, which lately i was 28 days. FYI: your period is only late or thrown off track due to your ovulation, i ovulated late, so my cycle will be 2 days late.

My best friend swore up and down she had a 28 day cycle and was not ovulating and was not getting a positive on opk's. I told her to use the opk cd13 up until her cycle comes and to take her temps the start of her cycle and sure is sh it, she was ovulating late, but her L.phase is short, so now she is going in to see a specialist.

I would keep taking your temp until you see the shift change until your cycle starts, if you dont see it, you probably didnt ovulate. Just make sure you are taking your temp everyday the same time and also the same way under the tongue(CONSISTENCY) is the key word when taking temps.  As i stated in your other post, b4 my m/c i had a lot of cm, after the m/c is a small amount. I got positive opk cd16, it was positive cd17 it was positive cd 18, i had small amount of cm and bad ovulation pains. Egg only lives 24 hours cd19 it was positive cd20 it was negative and i had a shift change to 98.0. AS i said it takes time. Sometimes i wish i was not a nurse and didnt no this much about my body. Good luck and i hope you get a BFP

check out fertility friend, has some useful info...

Only the thermal shift will help you pinpoint ovulation with any kind of certainty, while all other signs are good indicators that ovulation might be approaching and that you have increased fertility. While it is certainly possible to ovulate without your temperature showing it, (especially if your temperature-taking habits are less than ideal), ovulation can only be pinpointed by a thermal shift.

This is because progesterone, the hormone that is released only after ovulation, causes your temperature to shift slightly- so once you have a thermal shift, you can be reasonably sure that you ovulated on the previous day. Once you have a sustained thermal shift, the software will confirm ovulation for you and draw cross-hairs on your chart. You should keep having intercourse until ovulation is confirmed by a clear and sustained thermal shift.

To be honest a thermal shift in your chart would mean you have ovulated.not all women produce alot of cm,so they cant go by that myself included.ovulation tests dont tell you,you have ovulated but that you are going to within 24-48 hours.but your body can prepare to release an egg,but for what ever reason not.they say if you dont have a clear thermal shift then to keep bedding especially since you have ewcm..its not uncommon to ovulate late.or not ovulate at all in a cycle.so my suggestion is to keep bedding..

You could be ovulating. I watched my BBT for a couple months while TTC but it was usually all over the place. I only trust the ovulation tests now, because sometimes I will have a rise in temperature but no CM, and then the next month it will reverse. I definately think you ovulated even though you havent seen the BBT rise.
